It was the first day of middle school and everyone was nervous. Those with older siblings were told of the horrors waiting and those without were just as terrified by the thoughts of the new and unknown place where they would be stuck for the next three years. Children walked out of their parents' cars and the busses quaking as they walked inside and began hunting for their first blocks.
It was 8:46 and Kat was anxiously sitting in her mom's car begging the light to turn green already. She was the fool who was late on the first day of her new school. Her mom looked over at her. "You ok, kid?"
"What? Oh... umm... yah. Just nervous is all."
"It's going to be fine. I'm sure lots of kids are going to be late to class anyways, you'll be able to slide on in without that much attention being on you."
"I guess." Kat responded not really convinced. If only that alarm clock had rang at the proper time.
Finally they pulled into the loop in front of Kudan Middle and Kat hurriedly ran in not wasting time to even say goodbye to her mother. After waiting in line five minutes to get a tardy pass, Kat bounded away looking for room 319, Mrs. Rodger's room. She found it on the third floor.
"Hello. I'm Mrs. Rodger. Nice to see that we have another student. What's your name, or shall I just call you Tardy?"
"My name is Katrina Lollits, but everyone calls me Kat."
"Hello Katrina," Kat cringed at her full name. "There's a seat over there at by Jack. Jack raise your hand." A short raven haired kid did and Kat walked over to sit by him.
"I like your shirt Katrina," he said as she sat down.
"Thanks but please, call me Kat." Kat looked down to see what shirt she was actually wearing. She had been in a rush that morning as she was running late, and had just grabbed a random shirt. Apparently, it was a Batman tee-shirt. Thank God Kudan didn't have uniform unlike all the schools at her home town in Massachusetts.
"It is a pretty cool shirt." said the girl sitting across from Kat. "My name is Mae, I'm a bit of a nerd." Mae was relatively short and had blonde hair , blue eyes, and glasses. She was a wearing a My Chemical Romance shirt.
"A bit of a nerd?" Jack said cheekily. Mae glared.
"Hi Kat, I'm Anne and I would like to say that I'm the only sane one here but I'm not sane."
"It's ok. I'm not sane either." Kat didn't know it then, but she had just met two of her closest friends.
The first three blocks had gone slowly that day. All it was was teachers going over their boring rules and making the students fill out the stupidest surveys know to mankind, but now it was time for lunch. Anne had been in all three of her first classes so Kat walked with her to the cafeteria. "Since you're new to Kudan you can sit with me and my friends. Mae sits with us and you already know her." Anne sat a table in the corner of the cafeteria so they could avoid the eighth graders while Kat went and bought her lunch. By the time Kat had sat down there were four people she hadn't met and Anne and Mae sitting at the table. One by one they introduced themselves.
A ginger introduced himself as Robb with a tongue pop, a girl with reddish brownish hair, glasses, and a Beatles shirt said her name was Rachel, a really short girl with blonde hair and lots of freckles called herself Holly with a threat to never call her by her twins name Kris, and a black boy called himself Tey.
As it turned out, all of them were scheduled to have band fourth block.
