I'm on my way home from Sam's place. Why am I falling for him so fast? I've only known him for like a week or two. But I am starting to like him. I walked into my house. "I'm home!" I called. "Welcome home sweetie!" My mom said. "Hi mom" I said, going to my room. I called Rhi. "Hey Rhi. I'm planning on coming out tonight. Wish me luck." I said. "Oh! Good luck Elle!" She said encouragingly. "I'm gonna have your number dialed up in case they react badly ok? I'll need to get out of the house fast." I said. "Ok!" Rhi said back. I hung up and dialed her number. I packed a small bag with some clothes, deodorant, a toothbrush, and my phone charger and earbuds. Just in case I need to make a getaway. I went to my desk and got a piece of paper and a pencil. I wrote out what I was gonna say. I decided to write it in poem form. "They call me a he. He. That term makes me cringe. James. "Hi James!" They say. Every day. It hurts. It's not me. I feel trapped. Trapped in the wrong body, like being something I'm not. I am not a he. I am not James. I am a she. I am Elle." I read it over. "Ok looks good. Now to read it to them. But I'll read it to Jake first." I said to myself. I walked to Jake's room and knocked. "Come in" he called. "Hey sis! What's up?" He asked, smiling his million-dollar smile. "So, I'm going to come out to mom and dad. I wrote a poem. Can you read it and tell me what you think?" I ask nervously. "Sure thing!" He said, taking the poem. He read through it. "It's good! I'll be there too for support if you want" he said. I nodded. "Yes please" I said. He got up and walked over to me, hugging me. "I love you sis" he said. "I love you too bro" I said, hugging him back.
