TAYLOR POV

"Happy Birthday my darling!" Andrea said, opening the door and immediately picking up Maisie and peppering her face with kisses, making Maisie giggle.

"Thank you, Nana!!" Maisie said as Andrea stopped kissing her, kissing her grandmother's cheek back.

"Come on in.... Grandpa just went to get something from the garage." Mom said, looking at me and winking.

For her birthday, my parents had bought Maisie a bike. It was purple and had a little basket. She had been eying up other kids bikes at the park and I knew my parents wanted to get her something she would really use. My birthday present for her was a ticket to a Disney on ice show the next month.

We walked into the house, following Maisie who immediately went to find Kitty, my mom's huge dog who was more like a horse to Maisie.

"So, what did you girls get up to today?" Mom asked us as we sat down.

"Well, we had a proper mommy and daughter day. We went to the zoo, out for lunch, and then to the playground via Big Machine." I told her, hoping that was going to satisfy her and Maisie wouldn't add anything to it.

Unfortunately, I wasn't that lucky.

"Did you have fun Maisie?" Mom asked her.

"Uh huh! And I met prince Adam. He saved me, nana! I almost felled twice and he caught me both times!" Maisie said, and once she was on a roll she didn't stop, "Did you know he met my cats before me?? And he knows mommy! And he gave mommy a really good hug after I almost felled. And he is coming for dinner tomorrow!"

I shrunk back into the sofa. It wasn't that I didn't want to talk about it, but my mom had a tendency to ask a lot of questions and make very pointed comments. She knew that Adam and I were sort of friends, after all the garbage that went on in 2016, and she had always liked Adam so I knew that as soon as she figured out that 'prince Adam' was Adam the subject would not be dropped.

"Adam... Like Adam Wiles, Adam?" Mom asked me, as Maisie went back to playing with her doll and with Kitty.

"Yes, mom. The very same Adam." I said, rolling my eyes, "Ask away."

"Hmmm.... What is he doing in Nashville? Where did you bump into him? Did you invite him? How did Maisie meet him? What is going on, miss Taylor?" She asked very quickly.

"Okay. He is in Nashville because Scott wanted him to produce some songs for a new artist. No, I didn't know he was coming. Masie went up the stairs to Scott's office as Adam was coming out and she almost fell backwards down the stairs but he caught her. Maisie invited him to the playground, then almost fell off the monkey bars but Adam caught her again. We got talking and it was very nice and Maisie seemed to like him, so I invited him over for dinner tomorrow." I said, trying to answer all the questions mom had asked and to quench her thirst for gossip.

Mom just stared at me slightly, trying to come up with more questions, but luckily my dad came in just then, halting our conversation for now.

"Miss Maisie! Happy Birthday!" Dad said, making Maisie jump up and run into his arms.

Maisie loved her grandparents from the moment she met them, and it was mutual. They loved being grandparents and would look after her whenever Taylor had to go out of town for less than a few days so Maisie didn't have her routine messed up.

Luckily mom dropped the topic of Adam while Maisie opened her presents and we had dinner – sausages and baked sweet potatoes at Maisie's request, with birthday cake to finish.
