(1.5 WEEKS LATER)

TAYLOR POV

"Please mommy?" Maisie asked, practically in tears.

We had been back in Nashville for a week. Luckily, I had been able to find lots of things for us to do for the seconds week in LA, and the weather took a turn so Maisie wasn't so keen to swim and only mentioned Adam 3 times since AMAs night. Until now that is....

"Sweetheart, how about Uncle Austin? Or Grandpa?" I suggested, holding her hands in mine to make sure she didn't run off or have too much of a tantrum.

"No! I want ADAM!" She said, now in full-blown tears.

It was 3pm on a Monday and we were just getting into the car after nursery, Maisie standing in the foot well of the backseat while I stood in the doorway. Her nursery was organising a daddy-daughter/ mommy-son dance that Wednesday, which we hadn't known about since we were away for 2 weeks. Maisie immediately started to tear up, since she knew she didn't have a daddy to bring. Along with her teachers, we immediately talked to her about that fact it is okay to not have a daddy, you could also take a friend or other relative. Maisie wanted Adam. Plain and simple – it was Adam or nobody in her mind. He was her prince.

"Okay, get in your seat. We are late for Nana's." I said, not wanting to deal with her tantrum. Luckily her nursery was about a 5-minute drive from my mom's house. I sat her in her car seat and did the straps up as quickly as I could, trying to ignore the whimpering.

I closed her door and leaned against it, taking a few deep breaths before going around and getting in the driver's seat. I didn't even speak to her the whole drive, putting the radio on to try and distract me from her cries. When we got to my childhood home, I got her out and let her run straight into the comforting arms of my mother (who had opened the door when she saw the car pull up and looked concerned at her granddaughter's tearful face). I just grabbed my purse and followed them in, half bracing myself for what might come next.

"Sweetheart, why the tears?" Mom was saying to Maisie, sitting with the little girl on her lap in the living room.

"Mommy says Adam can't come to my daddy party!" She said, hiccupping every so often as she continued to cry.

"Oh...." Mom said, looking up at me with her eyebrows crossed, "Well I'm sure there's a reason?" She continued talking to Maisie but asking me the question.

I pursed my lips and turned around, going to the kitchen.

"Sweetheart.... Why don't you make me a pretty picture while I talk to your mommy? Yeah, let's try turning that frown upside down. That's what I like to see." I heard my mom say before I heard her footsteps coming into the kitchen.

"Okay, Taylor Alison Swift, why is my grandbaby crying her little eyes out?" Mom asked me, staring at me slightly and making me bite my lips. "I know something happened the night of the award show – everyone saw the adorable photos of Adam and Maisie and your brother told me something happened but he didn't have details. I need the details missy."

I rolled my eyes - of course Austin blabbed. The pictures were really adorable to be honest, and Tree did a great job at making sure the stories were quenched before they appeared. I just couldn't stop my own emotions blocking out anything else. But I had to tell my mom - I tell her everything and it helps me process.

"So, Adam was really wonderful that whole day, looking after Maisie and playing with her and dancing with her during the show. I can't deny that they developed a bond like no other within days. Then at home, Maisie was playing and I barely had an eye on her all night, but Adam obviously did because he made sure she got in her pyjamas once her friends had left and carried her around while she fell asleep. I had had a few drinks that night so was quite mellow. That's when it happened." I said, wringing my hands together and staring intently at the table, "I kissed him, mom. Even though I knew he just wanted to be friends. And then I ran away."
