After the guards finally freed themselves, the newest Gotham villain had been unleashed. Candy still lay unconscious on the ground, a large gash on the side of her head. Two guards restrained her in the back of their vehicle, and drove Candy back to the Asylum.
She awoke several hours later in her cell, confused and in pain. Candy rubbed her head, and looked around the room curiously. 'Where am I?'
'Your cell at Arkham,' a female voice droned- from nowhere it seemed.
Candy jumped. 'Uh... what's Arkham?'
There was a snort, and finally a tension. 'Oh, hon. They must have really cooked your brain cells.'
'Who?' Candy replied, ignoring the laughter.
'The doctors! Arkham is an asylum for... the criminally insane.' The long pause gave Candy a shiver.
'Who are you? Why are you in here?' Candy leaned against the wall, straining for the response.
'Pamela Isley. I was caught after... an attempt at taking out my boss.'
Candy gasped. Suddenly, all was quiet. She then awoke again in a different room, unsure of how she got there, and her memory of the last conversation erased from her mind. A man in a white coat sat before her, his hands folded as they rested on the desk. Candy looked down to see she was restrained, and immediately fought against the bonds that held her.
'I'm Dr Sweeting. Do you remember me, Candy?' he queried, leaning forward.
'Nope! Who are you? Lemme go,' she growled, still tugging.
Dr Sweeting sighed. 'I'm your doctor, Candy.'
'Candy? What kind of stupid name is that? And why do I need a doctor? Is it because my memory's gone? Was I in an accident?' she babbled.
'Just calm down.' He thought for a minute, and an idea popped into his head. 'Yes. Your memory is gone, and we are trying to help you restore it.'
Candy stopped pulling, and looked up at Dr Sweeting. 'Well in that case, Doc- hook me up!'
After some rest, food, and creative lies from Dr Sweeting, Candy was about to be released into the society of Gotham. They set her up with a job interview in town in an attempt to see how she would function in society, but Dr Sweeting made a few requests.
'We would like to ask you to stay on here at Arkham- so that we can care for you and make sure you have somewhere you can go if you remember something.'
Candy was suspicious, but agreed to his terms. 'Sure thing, Doc. Now where's this job?'
Dr Sweeting had planned to keep Candy as far away from any possible sweet stores, heaven forbid she remember the troubled boy she had met. However, they didn't count on her interview at a clothing store to be right around the corner from a brand new candy store.
Candy walked down the street, tugging at the awkward, plain clothes she had been placed in. She was a few feet from the door, when she smelt the most amazing smell. Candy followed it, and stopped right outside the biggest sweet store in Gotham. She stepped inside, and felt a rush hit her nose. There was a sudden flash in her mind- a pair of bright blue eyes, and a sly grin.
It faded, and a man stood at the counter, looking her up and down. 'You applyin' for the job?'
Candy forgot the reason she was there, and nodded. She was applying for a job, just not that one. The man struck out his hand, and smiled. 'You're hired.'
Two hours later, Candy returned to Arkham with an entire cover story ready. For some reason, Dr Sweeting believed every word and never doubted Candy for a second. From that day, she showed up to the candy store every shift while Dr Sweeting and his entire team believed she was selling party clothes.
