A Day In The Life Of The CUBBY

Wake Up Call

I blink my eyes open instantly regretting it as the sunlight overwhelms my senses. I roll out of bed and change into a hoody and put my glasses on before walking out to make breakfast. I pull out a pan, a bowl, a baking sheet, and a mixing spoon. I start to whip up some chocolate chip muffins while frying some eggs and bacon for the girls. I quietly hum s I prep the food cracking the eggs and mixing up batter the bacon is going on last so I can use it to wake them up. I finally pull the muffins from the oven so they can sit out as I pull out the bacon and drop it in the pan after a minute or so I hear three load mumbles and sighs as the girls decide to rise from their beds to come retrieve their food. I have it set up as a buffet for everyone so you can just grab what you want. I pour everyone a glass of juice and begin setting the table as they march on in. " Ok ladies grab what you want and come sit down wherever you want." I hear them all grumble in agreement. I'm a morning person compared to most of my friends.

I grab a plate and begin to grab some muffins before sitting down to eat with the girls. We all eat in a comfortable silence. As we finish up we all begin to put away the dishes and pack up the extra food for later. The girls march slowly down the hallway to get ready for the day. We are going to spend the day at the carnival before heading out to eat down by the bay. I walk back to my room and plop down on my rocking chair and open up a book and begin to read. I begin to loose track of time and am completely engrossed in my book until I hear shouting at my door for me to come out so we can leave. I smirk at the thought of the four of us at a carnival riding all the rides with all the little kids. I get in the car and start the engine as I pull out of our driveway and make my way over to the big carnival by the bay. I turn on the music and we all begin to sing along smiling as we try to harmonize but never quiet get there.

I pull up to the parking lot half an hour later as I find a spot to park the girls jump out to go buy our day passes. I make my way over to the front and grab my wrist band out of Jessica's hand and we all make our way inside. We all instantly run over to the bumper cars. We flash our wrist bands at the ride operator and board the tiny little cars waiting for it to begin. When the cars begin to move the girls and I come at each other mercilessly. We spin and crash into each other laughing as we went. We finally get off and begin to look for some place to eat. We wander about the park until I hear singing this voice feels so familiar to me. I begin to look around for the source and when I finally find it I cant help but to let out a giddy screech. The girl singing is none other than my friend Sara of whom I have known since fifth grade I left her years ago back in California when I left for Ireland. We still occasionally text but its been about a month since we last talked and I cant believe she is really here. The moment w make eye contact I scream her name and her big brown eyes widen as she screams back " ILY!" the childhood nickname she gave me back when we first met. I run over engulfing her in a hug. When the girls see us Breawna recognizes Sara and seems uncomfortable while Jessica and Nichole hover back waiting for an introduction.

"Guys I hope you remember Sara from San Diego" they all come over to greet her. I walk over to my sister and whisper " Hey you can't be cold towards her still it has been so long." she sighs and nods her head " I guess I can tolerate her for the time being." Breawna and Sara just never found a connection as friends so Breawna has stayed wary of my so called 'best friend'. I make my way over to Sara and decide to invite her to lunch with us. We all decide to get pizza and just split the cost so we decide to get a large cheese pizza with drinks. After our order is given to us we walk over to an empty table in the shade, we begin to eat while Sara tells us what she is doing here in England. She is here for the music video competition we all decide to go watch it after hitting a few more rides. we enter the outdoor theater which has wireless surround sound speakers hooked up and reclining seats. We find a row that will fit all of us relaxing as the hosts announce the event and the video clips began. About half an hour in Sara's video comes on as the song begins to play I recognize it instantly from when we were kids. She wrote it when we were still in middle school I begin to sing along not really caring who heard. Sara looks over to me with a smile "Ily you still remember this song?" I nod my head and say " of course how could I ever forget."

We continued watching until the final video stops and the hosts walk back out to announce that they have the winners of the competition. The announce Jada Clark for third place, Lisa coli as second and then we hear " Lastly we have our first place champion Ms. Sara Jay." Sara stands up with a look of shock on her face, we all begin to clap and cheer as she accepts the award. She thanks them and returns to sit beside us instantly I ask what the prize of the competition was and she says " One thousand dollars and a scholar ship to study under the head animator of Walt Disney and Pixar animations. As well as a friend and I can meet ant Disney star we wish." She looks at me and says, "Ily how would you like to come with me to meet Lin Manuel Miranda?" I instantly nod my head and say " How did you do that?" She replies " Well remember the movie Moana?" She smiles " Well that put him as an option and I jumped at the chance." I can't believe we are going to meet Lin Manuel Miranda in person this is amazing news. In celebration of her win we go out to a beach side restaurant and order Sara a slice of cake. Her face lights up when she sees the mammoth of a cake slice approach our table . She cuts of a chunk and then offers us some too. We each take a chunk until the cake is gone, as the night goes on we all talk until it is time to part ways Sara promises to stay in touch with us and see us again before she goes home. We arrive back at home and begin to shuffle back to our rooms to get some rest before Nichole and Jessica have to leave in the morning.
