The busy sound of the city wakes me up.
I blink blearily, rubbing my eyes. I try to sit up, but a pair of arms holds me down. I look behind me and see a peaceful Sonny, snoring lightly.

I smile a little.
"Sonny?" I whisper.
I poke his nose.
His eyebrows scrunch together then his eyes open, focusing on me.

"Hey mamasita." He says.

MY GOD HIS MORNING VOICE IS SO CUTE.
The voice in the back of my head gawks.

"Buenos días, hermoso." I smile, and he smiles back adorably.
[handsome]

"Should we get up and face the world?" I ask making a face.

"Five more minutes." He grins.
I nod and I get closer to him, and he wraps his arms around me and finds my hand with one of his.
I play with his fingers, and he chuckles.

"I had an amazing time last night." Sonny whispers.

"Yeah, I did too." I smile, sighing.

"Let's do this again next week, shall we?"

"Of course." I sigh.
"We should probably get up, even though I don't want to."

"You're right." He says sitting up.

I sit up with him, popping my elbows, my fingers, my knees, my back, then my neck.
I do this every morning.

"You sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies." He laughs.
I laugh too.
I never thought of that.

I stand up, rubbing my eyes again.

"Yo, you want my jacket?" Sonny says, folding up the blanket and sheet and shoving it in the backpack.

"Oh, sure. Thank you." I say, remembering my outfit.

"No problem." He smiles, tossing it to me.
I slide it on, smiling. It smelled like him, and I love that smell.

I zip it up and bounce on my toes.
"Ready?" I ask.

"Yes'm." He says. "Wanna swing by the bodega? Get some coffee and breakfast?"

"That sounds lovely. I smile.
We climb down from the roof on the fire escape sleepily.
We walk about a block an we get to the store. I look at the place next to it and there is a handmade sign.

DANIELA'S SALON!
MOVING BACK!
OPEN BY OCTOBER!

We walk in to the little store to see Usnavi talking to a pretty young woman.

"Hey y'all, good morning." He says, not really paying attention. All of that was focused on the woman.

I smile.
How cute.

"Uh, yo cuz?" Sonny says.

"Oh! Sonny! Alexa!" Usnavi exclaims.
"How're the two lovebirds?" He says, wiggling his eyebrows.
I blush and sonny rolls his eyes.

"G'mornin, Vanessa! Haven't seen you in a while! How's Navi treating ya?" He asks, hugging the woman who now has a name.

"Great, as usual." She winks at Usnavi.
"And who are you?" She smiles at me

"My name's Alexa." I smile and shake her hand.

"I'm Vanessa. Nice to meet you!" She smiles.
"You new around here?" She asks.

"Yeah, our apartment burned down, we're staying in Claudia's place." I smile.

"Ah. I'm sorry about the fire." She says.

"It's alright. I'm kinda glad it happened, I needed a change. Plus I met y'all." I smile.
I turn to sonny.
"Coffee?" I ask.

"Course." He smiles and goes behind the counter to get some.

"I'll be back soon, Usnavi." Sonny says, handing me my coffee.

"Kay. Be back by eleven, ya hear?" He says strictly.

Sonny doesn't reply, he just walks out.

"Bye y'all. Nice meeting you." I say, waving and following him.

We sit on the curb, watching the cars go by.

That's when I realized,
The fire was one of the best things that happened to me.
