Period 6

Tragedy of Magic

My name is Liana Shrub and I'm a disabled girl in Louisiana's Clark Middle School caught in 2010. I've had a tough time at school and I can be sort of rebellious. I refused to be put into Special Ed because I am the same as everyone else when it comes to learning. They can't do anything to stop that though they strongly advised that I be put into Special Ed. I always wanted to be treated normally, but nobody will. No one had except for one boy. This is the story of my magical life.

One day at school, my book bag broke so i was holding all the stuff in my arms. The bell just rung and I was rushing to get to 3rd period; Social Studies. Before I even knew what happened, I ran into a boy- and when I say ran i literally mean ran. He knocked me down and all my things fell. He immediately started apologizing after seeing my bald head.

"Sorry, I'm really really sorry- God I'm stupid." This clumsy boy said. I stood up. "Don't be," I replied, "What's your name, Clumsy Boy?" "Will Sands," He mumbled, "What were you diagnosed with?" he asked even though he probably knew the answer anyway. "Breast cancer." I said. I heard a loud noise and knew what it must be. "Oh no! The bell!" I groaned, "We're late!" "Here, let me help you." he said. Suddenly, my books flew back into my hands. "How-" I started. "Magic." He said very quickly and quietly. "I'll have to talk to you more then, Clumsy Boy." I told him. "Just because there is something wrong with your mind, doesn't mean there is anything wrong with your heart. Use that as motivation for everyday life." "Good-bye." We said in unison as we raced off to our next class. In those short three minutes, I gained nearly an hour of thinking to do. Great I have super boring Social Studies next.

I finally got to class, which room was on the complete other side of the school from where I ran into Will.

Mr. Cisseral, my social studies teacher, said, "You're la- Oh it's you." He didn't finish. He knows I have cancer so, he doesn't dare bother me. I also don't get homework. I went and sat down next to my best friend, Kate Christi. I finally had time to think. This boy was one of the only people who made me feel actually normal; like one of the popular people or just some regular student. I thought over what he said about something being wrong with my mind but nothing wrong with my heart. Did he really mean it?

After around two hours passed, period three finally ended. It is around midday, so lunch time. I found Will sitting in a corner with his friends, chatting. "Hello, there, Clumsy Boy." I said to him. All his friends shifted uncomfortably in their seats. "You have some things to explain." I said. "Fine," he replied, "But, not here, not now. After school at the library." "Until then, Will." What was he going to say? Would he demonstrate again? I went and sat down with Kate and realized she was talking to a boy named Adrian. "Meet me at the corner after-" He started, but abruptly stopped as I walked over. "I'll just talk to you later, then." He replied, then winked and walked away. "Oooh! Someone has a crush!" I exclaimed. "You do too," she replied, "I saw you talking to that Will guy."

School finally ended. It was time to talk to Will. I rushed over to the library, heart pounding 100 miles per hour. I found him in a seat at one of the tables reading a book. "Hey, Will." I said. "Hi. I never caught your name." "Liana, Liana Shrub." I replied quickly. "Well, Liana Shrub, I'm going to show you where I really live." What did that mean? Where he really lives? I heard a loud noise and saw a portal open up right in front of us. We stepped through. Questions raced through my head. Would I ever be able to get back?
