Darlin', do not ask me to measure
The depths of the love we share.
If you were here, I always think
Life would shine, eternally
We share our grief, so why argue
Over the sorrows of the world
Your countenance is the assurance
Of perennial spring, everywhere
What is the cost of this world....
If not the galaxy of your eyes...
Like the two drops of coffee in milk
If only I found you, the Universe
Would be enthralled
This wasn't how it should have been,
Except that I wanted it to be
I know, austerity stinks through my collars, but
There are more sorrows in this world, darlin'
Beyond the anguish of love
There is more to satisfaction
Than the relief of lover's nest;
The blight of dark magic that has taken over;
Magic of the time paused beyond counting
Tell me, how can I stop myself from not kneeling down
At the altar of savagery and loathe
When young flesh is up for sale
Draped in silk, satin and brocade; everywhere,
In alleys and bazaars of Raqqa
Bazaars where cigarettes is the price
And soul the object
Bazaars where mannequins have real hearts
Tell me, darlin', how can I go blind
Blind to this misfortune, our time witnesses
The illuminated skins get auctioned
I am dragged in the swamp of wilderness
Tell me, upon witnessing this, should I remain untrue
Or should I go and change my point of view
My inability to un-peruse at the fragile bodies
Bathed in shimmer and gold from far, but
As I get closer, all I see is blood and fear
Dripping through their clothes of pestilence
Tell me, darlin', how can I stop my eyes from gazing,
What should I do?
Your indefinable beauty still allures me, but
What should I do?
There are sorrows in this world
Beyond the bliss of your beauty
There is more to satisfaction
Than the relief of lover's nest;
So then, darlin', amidst the trade of souls
Why would you still ask me to measure?
Measure the depths of the love we share.
