Chapter 2
I walked down the halls of my school. I was still hurting from last night's assault but I tried not to let it show. I walked up to my locker and just as I was about to open it Steph walked up. Stephanie Mainer has been my best friend for years, she has always been there for me when I had had a rough night. She doesn't know the truth behind it, whenever she find me hurt she always asks what happened but I would tell her nothing. She'd usually try pushing it, then give up knowing I wouldn't say a thing. I absolutely love her like a sister, and we get along great. She has the personality to get anyone in a good mood just by happily skipping up to you with a smile on her face. The only flaw that I know she has is her parents are constantly working, leaving her needing attention that isn't there. She's really pretty so alot of guys fall for her but for the wrong reasons. She goes through guys so quickly that I doubt it even means anything to her. She doesn't sleep with them all, only if they make it past a month with her... Which has only been 5 times, if my count is correct. Right now she has a boyfriend of 3 weeks named Jeremy and things seem to be going smoothly, I hope this one last's, she deserves the correct type of love.
Steph hopped to my side, big grin on her face as usual. I could tell that she had important news to tell me, so I turned to her with a matching smile.
"What has gotten you so happy?"
"My mom and dad are coming home from their week business trip and are taking me out for dinner. A whole evening with them tonight and I'm thrilled. Hopefully it will be good, meaning no fights" She giggled, literally jumping up and down with excitement. She grabbed my hand and started making me jump with her, leaving me grimacing in pain. She stopped all together and looked at me with a concerned look on her face.
"Oh no, Brooky what's wrong. You look like you're in pain?"
"It's nothing. - I said with a smile still on my face - Anyways I'm so happy for you, you have been dying for a night with just all 3 of you" I said trying to focus the attention back on her. She looked at me for a little longer, checking to see if I was truly OK. I smiled again raising an eye brown to encourage her excitement for her parents. She snapped out of her staring and went back to her peppy self.
"OK, I know right! We're going to some fancy restaurant across town but I really don't care. It will be nice to just spend time with them like a normal family, you know?" I nodded my head and looked back at my locker grabbing my humanities books. After shutting my locker the bell rang and both Steph and I headed to Mrs. Peters room, Steph was still talking about what she would talk to them about as we walked in. We took our usual spots at our table and got settled.

It was lunch time already, Steph and I grabbed out lunch's from the cafeteria and went to go sit back at our usual table. We usually sat with Kent and his friends as well because we were so close. His friends don't seem to care that much seeing as all my friends are hot in their eyes. I sat in between Steph and Kent taking out my sandwich and eating. Kent looked over at me and smiled before turning back to his friends as they talked about some video game. Lunch was getting pretty routine until this really hot guy walked up to Kent and patted him on the shoulder. Kent turned around and smiled up at him before standing up and doing that weird boy hang shake and hug thing. I looked at Kent with an eyebrow raised in question before he let out a slight laugh.
"This is Kaden, He's a buddy of mine. We met at Chuck's party last week, he just moved here from California." I nodded my head and looked at Kaden who was grinning at me. I stood up and extended my hand.
"Hi I'm Brooklyn, Kent's sister" I smiled at him and Kaden looked between both Kent and I before setting him gaze back on me. He nudged Kent in the shoulder and whispered something into his ear which I could tell made Kent uncomfortable as he hid it with a fake smile. Kaden then turned back to me with a crooked smile on his face.
"Nice to meet you Brooklyn, you guy's twins or something?" he asked and I laughed as well as Kent.
"No, I'm two years younger" I said finally and Kaden nodded his head in answer.
"So how do you like Canada so far?" I asked after a bit of silence. We had sat back down at our table and Kaden was sitting across from Kent and I.
"It's good, different but good." I nodded my head and before I could ask another question the bell rang signalling for the end of lunch. I smiled over at Kaden as I got up.
"Well it was nice to meet you Kaden, hope to see you soon." I said.
"Yeah, same here." With that said Steph and I headed back to our lockers grabbing our book and heading to math. After math I had a spare and then it was the end of the day. I sat down in my usual seat and listened to the lecture Mr. Bamford was making about how hearing loss has accumulated because of ipod use. Sooner than later the bell rang and I scurried out of the class and headed to the library to finish some homework before heading home. Just as the final bell rang and I got seated in the cubicles in the library, an announcement came on through the speakers.
"Brooklyn Warner to the office please, Brooklyn Warner to the office." I packed up my stuff, curious to why I had to leave. I quickly walked down to the office and to the front desk.
"You called me down, Brooklyn Warner." I said with a polite smile. The school secretary smiled back and pointed a finger behind me before speaking.
"Yes your father is here to pick you up." I turned around to see dad sitting in a waiting chair with a suit and a smile. I just stared at him before turning back to the secretary.
"Thank-you" I said and walked over to him.
"Why are you here?" I asked as he started to stand.
"I wanted to surprise you and take you out for maybe a bite to eat, just the two of us. Maybe after we can even go to the mall and pick you up something if you'd like." He still had his loving smile on as he stared at me and I just stared back knowing I couldn't say no to his plans. I simply nodded my head yes before he started walking back down the hall towards the front entrance. I quickly followed behind him as he made his way towards his car.
Before I opened the door, I caught something from the corner of my eye. It was Kent and he was on the side walk with some of his friends in his gym strip, he must have class. He was staring right at me - as his friends continued talking - with a concerned look on his face. He saw that I was with dad and knew something was up. I breathed a sigh of breath knowing that he would understand what was going on and put on a small smile.
Kaden was right beside him and soon noticed that Kent was looking elsewhere. He followed his gaze and it landed on me, looking back at Kent he saw the hurt and sadness behind his eyes as he looked at his sister and what looks like a father figure. He didn't understand what was wrong, but brushed it off as Brooklyn and her dad drove off. Just then Kent put his attention back to their previous conversation, as if nothing had happened at all.
