Pic Of Robert and Tony (Cops)
*~*~*~*~*
Chapter 8
"Are you almost ready?" Kent asked as he turned around from packing up the rest of my bags. We had left the hospital that morning and are now packing our necessities before heading towards our new home.
"Yeah, just give me another sec" I called back as I looked around my almost empty room for any items I may have missed. After seeing everything was packed I turned and headed slowly to the front door and made my way to the car parked and waiting. It was still difficult to walk seeing as the bruises and welts still haven't completely healed from th incident. I felt Kent's arms wrap around my waist as he helped me towards the car.
"Thank-you" I said once seated. Kent and I sat in the back of the police SUV (which looked like any other black SUV because it was a ghost car) as two other policemen sat in the front as they drove. The driver being the cop that talked to me at the hospital - which I found his name to be Robert - and the other being his partner - Tony - I believed.
Robert was mainly silent as his partner was very talkative and I actually enjoyed being in the same car as him. Once we were all buckled in and were on the road to our aunt's house Kent fell into a silence as he turned to stare out the window. I looked over at him sadly and placed my hand on top of his.
"How are you doing?" I asked. He turned around with a fake smile.
"Great, now that dad's gone and you're safe." I frowned slightly knowing when my brother would lie.
"I know you too well Kent. What's really bothering you?"
"Nothing, honestly" he said looking out the window again. I sighed and continued staring at the back of his head. Before long Kent let out his own sigh and turned back to face me.
"I guess I'm just nervous about meeting our family we haven't met, yet even heard about." He said averting his eyes to the back of Robert's chair. I noticed both Rob and Tony become silent in the front seat and figured they must have heard our conversation. 'What eavesdroppers' I thought. Turning back to Kent I grabbed his hand again. He turned to face me and I smiled once again.
"You have every right t be nervous Kent, heck I'm nervous too. But no matter what happens we'll get through this together ok? You and I forever bro, I'm sorry but you're stuck with me." Kent laughed a little as he looked at me smiling.
"When did you become so wise Brooky?" my smile faded a bit but I held it none the less.
"When I was forced to grow up." I simply stated and tried to smile more brightly, after a few seconds Kent's smile grew too.
"I guess the increase of brain activity in there is one positive that came out of this mess." Kent joked tapping my head for added effect. I laughed along with him.
"Hey, I've always been smart." After that the quiet became more comfortable and we pulled apart from each other looking out the window at the passing scenery. Time seemed to have sped up after that because before long the SUV was pulling up to a beautiful long wooden styled house. The house was huge but looked to be all one level. Surrounding it was green fields that looked as if they could go on for miles. There was a separate building to the side of the house that looked like a small garage and a few trucks both old and new were lined up against the wall.
Kent and I both climbed out of the car looking around at the wide fields, never had we ever seen a place so fresh and clear. We were used to the busy and clammy streets of home and no we were out in the middle of nowhere with a beautiful view. Both Rob and Tony got out of the car as well and helped us take out our bags from the back. We left them there by the side of the house and all four of us walked towards the front door. I reached for Kent's hand wanting the comfort of his presence.
A middle aged woman stood there in a flowered patterned dress with an apron over top. Her hair was placed in a messy pony tail on the top of her head. She was pretty and had bright green eyes that wondered around before coming to set on me. A small smile slowly spread on her face and she looked back up at the cops.
"Mrs. Mitchell? This is Kent and Brooklyn Warner." Tony said breaking the awkward ice. The women - who I was assuming was my aunt - took a step aside inviting us all in.
"Oh, come in, come in. Have a seat please." Kent and I stood awkwardly by the door, hands still in one another's.
"Could I get you guys anything, the drive must have been exhausting." She said looking at Kent and I mainly while we talked before turning her attention towards the cops.
"Water would be nice thank-you." Robert said as Tony added a 'Me too please' She hurried off towards the kitchen bringing back two glasses of water and a tall man who seemed to be around her age. Handing the two drinks to the men she looked over at us extending her hand.
"I know this is a bit confusing and awkward, but I'm your aunt Jody and this is my husband and your Uncle Pete." I smiled shaking her hand politely and then the man's who was smiling at us both as well. I nudged Kent so he could wake up and shake their hands and when he did finally silence became almost immediate.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, especially after all this time." I smiled as I spoke trying to end the silence.
"Pleasure" Aunt Jody said. Robert cleared his throat and placed his glass down on the coffee table by him.
"Well, we must be going. It was a pleasure meeting you two and I will give you my card for anything you may need." He said handing Jody and I his card.
"Take care" Tony added before they both walked out the door and out to the car then driving away. I turned back to my aunt and uncle, seeing them look at one another.
"Uhm, do you think it would be alright if I put my things away where I'll be staying?" I asked wanting to take a nap as well.
"Oh! Of course dear. Here Pete how bout you get their bags and I'll show them their new rooms." Pete nodded and grabbed out bags as both Kent and I followed our aunt. We went down a hallway and stopped near the end. Jody opened the door and the room behind was feminine with a white duvet with small pink and purple flowers on it and a big dresser with a mirror hanging above it. Over to the opposite side of the room sad a little makeup table with lights around the framing mirror.
"This will be you're room, I hope it is alright?" Jody said after Pete put down my bags in the room. I turned and smiled at her before replying.
"It is perfect thank-you" She nodded and turned towards Kent.
"And this room will be yours" she said opening the door to the room beside mine. It was navy blue and beige with a dresser and a small deck. Kent smiled at me before looking at both Pete and Jody.
"Thank-you for your kindness" he said stepping into his new room.
"There is a bathroom there but I'm afraid you're going to have to share it with your sister because their conjoined to both bedrooms." I nodded my head and kept my smile.
"Thank-you once again, it is very kind of you." I said looking back around my room.
"Well, if that is all I'll be going to make us dinner and I'll call you later for it, seeing as you seem to have a bit of unpacking to do. I will introduce you to the rest of the family before dinner as well." She said and I raised an eye brow at 'the rest of the family'
"My daughter and son." She clarified and I nodded once again.
"Well then see you guys later." She said as both her and Pete headed back towards what I assume is the kitchen. I started to think about my new life and even after the whole awkward silence and not knowing the people I live with all that well, it seemed to be a good place to be right now. And I was beginning to think that I was going to like it here.
