"Erick, you don't have to come with us tonight." I said while brushing my hair out. I glanced in the mirror, seeing my best friend sit on my bed. A dinner out with my cousin was about to turn into a dinner out with her, plus Erick.

Not that I was complaining.

He looked up at me and we made eye contact through the mirror. He pouted and slightly stuck out his bottom lip. "No, yo quiero venir. I haven't seen you in so long Gabriela. I miss you."

I giggled slightly, turning around to face him and going to sit with him. That familiar fluttering feeling in my stomach that I only got around Erick was once again present. Stop it. He doesn't like you like that. "Okay Cubano, whatever you say. I'm sure Elena will be happy to see you."

His plump lips turned up into a small smirk. "Good to know you missed me too."

I laughed and lightly hit his arm. "You know I did." A more relaxed natural smile fell upon his face. "Now go wait in the car for me. I have to grab my purse."

. . .

Erick and I had been friends for years. From the moment we met, we clicked and have gotten along great ever since. Along with feelings of friendship, came along other unwanted feelings on my part. No matter how hard I tried to stop liking him I couldn't. He was so attractive, funny, smart and caring. What more could you ask for in a guy? He was perfect. Over the years I learned how to push the feelings to the back of my mind and not to let them show when around him. I would just have to get over the fact that we were only friends; and that's all we would ever be.

I walked out to the car to find Erick sitting in the drivers seat with a smirk on his face. I entered the car and he instantly said, "I'm driving you tonight Nena."

I smiled and nodded and sat back in my seat. Why does every little thing he does make me feel this way?

We drove in silence until Erick spoke up. "You seem quiet for some reason tonight Gabriela. Is everything ok?"

"I'm fine Erick, no te preocupes." I said, instantly regretting how harsh it sounded.

"Bien." He said looking away from me. The silence grew even more. Erick drummed his fingers on the steering wheel until we pulled up to the restaurant. We got out of car and I saw my cousin Elena.

"Hey El," I said while hugging her. "Erick came along."

Erick shyly smiled. "Hola Elena. I hope you don't mind that I'm here."

"Of course not!" She said pulling him into a hug as well. "It's nice to see you."

We sat down in a booth, Elena sat across from me while Erick slid into the spot next to me. He was so close to me and I could smell his cologne. We were chatting when the waiter approached us. I could feel his eyes on me.

"Hey guys, can I start you off with anything to drink?" He said, still only looking at me. Elena seemed to notice too, looking at me with a small smirk on her face.

"I'll just have water please." I said looking down. Erick mumbled a quiet "same". As soon as the waiter left, Elena started talking.

"Gabi, he was totally checking you out! He wasn't even subtle about it!" She exclaimed laughing. I merely laughed and shrugged it off.

Erick suddenly looked at me, speaking to me for the first time since the car. "Are you into him?"

Now I really laughed. "Into him? Erick I don't even know him, how could I be into him?" He tensely nodded and turned his head away. I looked at Elena but she seemed unfazed by Erick's odd behaviour. Why was he acting like this?

Soon enough the waiter returned with our drinks and got ready to take our order. He took Erick's order, then Elena's then he turned to me.

"And what can I get for you my love?" He said directly to me. The only thing I could see out of the corner of my eye was Erick's jaw clenching. He squeezed his hand that was lying next to me into a fist. I gently placed my hand on his in attempt to relax him.

"I'll have the margarita pizza please." I said and the waiter winked at me while he collected my menu. As soon as he walked away I turned to Erick.

"Erick what are you doing? ¿Qué pasa?" I asked him.

"Nada." He snapped, pulling his hand out from underneath mine. I sighed and looked at Elena who looked at me with a knowing look. What was going on?

. . .

The rest of the dinner awkwardly went by, none of us not really knowing what to say after Erick's outburst. We said our goodbyes and Erick and I got into the car and started driving home.

Silence.

"Erick, why are you acting like this? Seriously, are you okay? I'm worried about you." I said looking at Erick. His jaw was still clenched, his eyes focused solely on the road. He didn't answer me.

"Really? You're going to act like a child and ignore me? Really mature." I spat back looking out my window, hoping to get a reaction from him. There was nothing.

We pulled into my driveway and I immediately got out of the car and walked up to my front door. I unlocked the door and walked straight up to my room. Erick followed me. I went into my room and stood by my bed.

"Look Erick, I don't know why you're acting like this but it's really frustrating that you won't tell me what's wrong. I'm your best friend, you can talk to me!" I pleaded. He still wouldn't look at me.

"¡Mírame! Erick, tell me what's wrong!" I said, raising my voice. "Or get out because I really don't have time for deal with the way you're acting."

Suddenly he sat down on my bed, pulling me down to sit next to him.

"I'm sorry Gabi," He said quietly. "I don't know why I'm acting this way." The look on his face told me otherwise.

"Erick, you know you can trust me." I said quietly, matching his tone of voice. "Just tell me what's wrong."

Erick shifted around uncomfortably. "I just didn't like the way that waiter was talking to you."

"¿Qué?" I asked. Did I hear him correctly? "You heard me." He said, his green eyes looking into mine. "Don't make me repeat it again."

"Why?" I asked. I could feel why heart rate speeding up. Why did he care?

He didn't say anything for a few moments until he spoke up. "Te quiero Gabi."

"I know." I said, a little confused.

"More than a friend." He added, ever so quietly.

Oh. I thought. OH.

"I'm really sorry, you don't have to say anything," he started, "but it just made me upset when the waiter was complimenting you, but he has the right to-"

"Erick-"

"-and I've tried to hold it back for so long but I just get so jealous when any guy talks to you and-"

"Erick-"

"I'm sorry I made things awkward now didn't I?" He asked biting his lip, still not fully looking at me.

I laughed and took his chin and turning his head so he would look at me.

"Te quiero también Erick." I said smiling. "I have for a long time."

His eyes lit up as his cupped  my cheek with his hand. "Really?"

I nodded and his eyes flickered to my lips. Oh my god. He leaned in and softly placed his lips on mine.

When he pulled away he smiled and said, "I'm really going to have to work on my jealousy now."

I laughed and looked him in the eyes. "Don't worry. Yo quiero solamente tú."
