Another sigh leaves your lips as you tear a set of tickets out of the printer and slide them through the small gap in the window. "Enjoy your movie!" You smile, giving the two teens a waves as they giggle happily, slipping into the theater. Looking down at your watch, you see the second hand ticking away, a groan of annoyance leaving you. You could have sworn it had been an hour since you had last looked at the time, but nope only about ten minutes. The line for the ticket booth had finally calmed, giving you a slight break, or at least one long enough to go grab a drink from concessions.

Unlocking the door to the ticket booth, you walk quickly through the lobby, jumping into a short line of people waiting on drinks and popcorn. Another co worker waved you over to an open register, causing you to scream internally. It wasn't that you didn't like the man, he was nice enough, you just weren't really interested in his increasing attempt to get you to go on a date with him even though you had nicely declined him more times than you could count. Plastering on a smile, you walk over, pointing to a medium, sized cup.

"Can I get a coke? I only have a second before I need to be back. I'm sure that line will fill up again in no time."

"Why of course!" He chimes, giving you a failed wink before getting you one cheerfully. You give him a slightly forced smile, tapping your fingernails on the counter as you waited for him to finish filling up your drink. He sets it on the counter in front of you, sliding it across to you and not so subtly brushing your hand.

"Thanks Duval. See you later." You hum, turning to go back to the ticket booth. "Just one more hour..."

"Hina is done with this place." A sigh makes you look over at the woman, finding her uniform was wet from some sort of drink explosion. "Twice tonight, Hina has had drinks spilt on her..."

"Oh my..." You say, stifling a small giggle. "That's horrible. At least it won't stain, whatever it was looks light enough that it would blend into the fabric."

"I do not care if it stains. It is just too sticky." She grumbles.

"Sorry." You shrug. "Maybe you can find another shirt to borrow or something? You're only here for another hour or two though right?"

"Yes, Hina will search." She hums before heading off. You sigh, going back to the ticket booth and finding that the line had gotten long again. A bunch of movies had come out this weekend, making the theater busier than normal. The last hour of work goes by quickly enough, and as soon as your watch beeped, you made a beeline for the door, ready to be done for the day. You clock out quickly keeping your eyes on the floor as you dart across the lobby hoping that no one would stop you on your way out. You breathe a sigh of relief once the door shuts behind you, your shoulder relaxing slightly.

"Now home..." It wasn't a long walk exactly, just not very enjoyable. Seeing as you worked late, it was always dark on the way home. Your foster family had refused getting you a car saying it was too expensive even though you have saved almost enough money for the down payment by yourself. Getting lost in your thoughts, you hum quietly to yourself, turning down a side street to take a shortcut home for the night. Then again you shouldn't have been surprised, you had bad luck with Foster Families. Since before you could remember you were an orphan. Each family took you in, promised to love you, then a few weeks later would give you away again. You didn't know why, it happened so much that you no longer cared to know why. At least this time it felt more permanent....

"You really shouldn't be walking so late at night alone." A rumble pulls you from your thoughts as an arm comes around your shoulders. You freeze, your heart thudding in your chest as you gaze goes to the man that had his arm wrapped around you. His red hair stood out the most, against his pale skin and he dwarfed you in size, leaving you feeling vulnerable.

"I...uh..."

"I can escort you home if you're willing to pay." He smirks. "There's a lot of bad folks out, it would be a shame if you got mugged... Or worse."

"I-I'm sorry, I don't have any money on me." You stutter, trying to squirm away from the man. "And my house isn't far...I'll uh...I'll be fine." He catches your arm.

"Damn. And here I thought we could spare you." He breathes and you see shadows easing closer as, he wasn't alone. You let out a nervous chuckle as three other men join the redhead. Looking around you try to find an escape route, but the four had you cornered.

"P-please don't hurt me." You stutter, tears starting to brim your eyes.

"Aww you made her cry boss." One rumbles.

"Don't worry, we won't be too rough with you. Maybe." The redhead pats your head. You squeeze your eyes shut, forming your hands into fists at your sides. Feeling a hand graze your cheek, you whimper bracing yourself for whatever would happen. It wasn't until you heard confused cries that you opened your eyes again. You stagger back, looking up at them. Were they taller now? And why were they looking at you in shock.

"What.... Is she..." The masked blond breathes. You blink and look down at yourself in confusion. What were they talking about-

"Mrowr?" You squeak out. What had once been your hands were now black fur covered paw. Staring at them, you lift one off the ground, jumping when it moved with you. 'Oh god...what the...' You shake of your initial shock, darting between the legs of the redhead and running home. They search the darkness for you.

"What... What was that...?" The stitched up guy breathes.

"That boys... Was a giant payday." The redhead grins. "We'll find her again."

You don't stop running until you reach your front door, breathing heavily as you lean your head against the wood paneling of the wall outside. You were barely a foot tall now, covered in black fur, and completely confused. Looking at the door you try to call for help, but only another 'meow' escapes your lips. 'How do I get in now? How do I change back? What even am I?"

"Hm? Kitty?" The door opens and your foster brother peers around carefully. You look up at him meowing loudly before darting past him up the stairs to your room. There was no way they could see you like this. You had to figure out how to get back to normal.

The door to your bedroom was cracked letting you slip through. Leaning against it, you close it the best you could pacing your room. 'Gotta figure this out...' Passing a mirror, you glance up, shocked to find that you were indeed a cat. You shift, looking for something that could help, you hop onto your bed, eyes landing on a photo of you and Mother Rouge, the woman who ran the orphanage, the one who helped sooth you whenever you were given back. You feel yourself calm at the picture, fur residing. Sighing in relief, you pick your hand up, finding that it was back to normal. Your reflection in the mirror slowly shifted back to the one you were used to, making you smile a bit. "Thank god..." A thud makes you look over to find the door had been opened by your foster brother, he now sat in the hallway with a horrified expression.

"Monster..." He manages before taking off in fear.

"What no...Jack!" You run to the door, the little boy already having taken off down the stairs. Once your foster parents found out about this, there was no way they'd keep you. "Shit." Turning back to your room, you look around before grabbing a backpack and starting to throw stuff inside. "Gotta go, gotta go." You mumble, tossing anything necessary into the bag.Taking one last look around your room, you zip up the bag and go over to the window. Footsteps thudding up the stairs make you quicken your pace, throwing open the window just as the door opens to reveal your foster mom with Jack cradled against her side.

"___!" She gasps before you jump out the window, landing heavily before taking off. You run as fast as you can, not really having a destination in mind at the moment. You were pretty sure you had grabbed your wallet, meaning you could probably get a motel room if you could pass off how stressed you were. Hopefully they wouldn't call around to figure out who you were.

You look back as you reach the edge of town. A sadness sits on your chest and you turn your gaze to the long road ahead of you.
