The early evening lull had come to the streets, that quiet between the frenetic commuters and the vibrant party seekers. The bars and clubs were still mostly shuttered, the only visible life being the cafe terraces that teemed with diners, chatting, and relaxing after a busy day.
At night you can be anybody and no one cares who you are. So with the twin's retro outfit from an era, even their mother never knew, we step into the darkness. The stars are somewhere behind the haze of black cloud that is stretched thinly above and the transitory moonlight bleaches the grey-scale world momentarily, and then it is gone. My mind is a blur with possibilities, each more fanciful than the next.
"Okay, once we spot Mr. Orlov let me do the talking OK?" Deena suggested.
"Sure. I'm not in the mood to chase someone and talk about work. Not tonight." I answered.
As we walked through the arched entrance of the venue we spotted the guests arriving for the ceremony.
'This is quite a big event. I can't wait to taste the food and drinks and men." Dani uttered.
"Calm down hoe," I said.
Dani gave me a death stare.
As we enter the central auditorium I started to scan the place ticking off people and items in my head. There is a massive ice cake in the shape of a magazine cover, which probably no one will ever eat: check. Caterers setting out glasses and tables: check. Table of trophies: check. MILF: check. Cougars: check. Suddenly I felt the urge to go for a pee.
"Guys I'll just go to the restroom. Save me a seat." I said to the twins.
They both nod and I search for my destination. I found it in less than a minute. I immediately walk inside and enter one of the cubicles. Then I heard someone enters the bathroom. Her high-heeled shoes made a horrible clicking as she walked back and forth. And then.....
"YOU DID NOT SEND ME A FUCKING EMAIL! YOU ARE SUCH A FUCKING ASSHOLE!" Her holler reverberated in my ears like a clap of thunder, such was her rage. It was a roar of pure anger. I contemplated whether to wait for her to leave or just get out of the cubicle and console this poor human being. I chose the last one. I carefully let myself out and pretended not to hear anything. When I decided to take a brief look at her that's when I knew I made the right decision.
The woman that walked in could have graced any billboard or magazine cover, but she was better than those two-dimensional photoshopped models. Her cat eyes and flawless lips caught my eye. But her Asian features in general match perfectly which makes her so beautiful. I suddenly get nervous that I almost went back to the cubicle. Am I the only lesbian who gets nervous whenever an attractive woman is around? Because I'm like this most of the time.
When she turned around I could see the shock on her face when she see me. "Oh, God. I'm so sorry about that. I-i thought I was alone." There was a shyness to her, hesitation in her body movements, and a softness in her voice.
I offer her a warm smile. "Believe me I've heard worse things than that. Are you okay miss?" I couldn't help but ask. She's wearing this Boohoo floral print ruffle Bardot maxi dress. My eyes were drawn to her flawless neck down to her exposed shoulder blades. Now I'm curious who is this asshole that made her angry.
"Yes, I feel better now. I have to go back now to my office." I want to stop her from leaving and to talk to her more. But I don't want to creep her out so I just nod and watch her leave.
When I returned to our assigned table I saw that the twins are comfortably seated already.
"What took you so long? Did you make out with someone?" Dani asks accusingly.
