Saran and Mason had been standing beside the trailer for at least thirty minutes. And for those thirty minutes, there had been no sign of Ethan. Saran realized that she was the one to tell him to meet them but she was starting to get worried. What if something had happened? What if those goo monsters had gotten to him? What if he had died?

Mason wrapped his arm around her shoulders and gave a gentle squeeze.

"Stop worrying so much kiddo. He seems like the type to handle his own. He'll be fine." Mason reassured her gently. She looked at him and nodded.

"You're right. He can take care of himself."

She seemed to think for a minute before she looked back at her brother.

"So, how did you get here?"

He leaned against the trailer and spoke up.

"After I left home, I decided to do some traveling. Thought Louisiana was gonna be a good place to settle for a while until someone told me about the famous Dulvey Haunted House. Just had to see it for myself and look where it got me," He scoffed.

Saran laughed.

When her laughter died down, Mason turned toward her.

"So how did you manage to leave without alerting Mom or Cole?" He asked, glancing at her curiously.

Saran crinkled her nose at the mention of her mother and another brother before she began to pace away from Mason.

"Well, they don't actually know. And before you start, I did leave a note saying that I would be back once I found you. But I'm more than sure they won't be happy about it."

Saran bit her lip, worried at the thought of what her mother would do once she found out she'd skipped out to find someone who everyone believed was dead.

The repercussions could be thought about once they were on the way home though. Saran opened her mouth to say something else when a low growl interrupted her.

She froze.

There weren't any animals here, what could possibly growl like that?

Saran got her answer in the form of a body crawling out of a bush next to her.

Black goo dripped off its body. Razor sharp teeth winked at her. And those eyes, those beady black eyes glared at her. It was exactly like the monster before, except that it crawling on the ground like some kind of creepy horror cliche.

She was torn between screaming for Mason and pulling out the gun to try and shoot it. She settled for a good middle instead.

A strangled moan left her lips and she began shooting at the creature. It gave a screech of pain and launched itself at Saran's body.

Saran landed on the ground with a huff of pain. The gun was knocked out of her hands and a little ways away. It took all of her strength to lift the disgusting monster away from her.

It began to snap at her face, getting closer and closer each time.

"MASON!" She screamed back toward her brother. When she heard no response, she began to scream louder for him, trying to look and see where he had gone.

Suddenly, the creature stopped and looked up. Low whispering made Saran grunt and awkwardly look back behind her.

Mason was standing stock still and staring at a little girl directly in front of him. Saran noticed that the little girl couldn't have been that old. Maybe nine or ten? And she looked pale as a ghost. Her dark hair stood out starkly against her face. The dark gray dress she wore was a little dirty but it wasn't covered in mud like it should have been. Something was wrong.
