*Don't trust everything you see. Even salt looks like sugar.*

Emma had made her way back and forth from me to the dance floor for about an hour now and even though we both had the same amount of drinks, I could tell she was feeling the effects much more strongly than I. "Please please please come dance with us?" Emma pleaded with me, pulling out all the stops. Her eyes were wide with fake innocence and her lower lip was pushed out slightly. "Come onnn! Jus one song, that's all I ask for." Her words were beginning to slur.

"Emma," I spoke to her like you would speak to a misbehaving child. "I'm here, I'm drinking, this is my idea of fun. Not out there" I pointed to the sea of moving bodies. "I do not dance. You know that." I tried giving her a forgiving smile but she was having none of it.

"Fine!" She yelled and snatched the drink from my hand, quickly gulping it down while I watched her with a shake of my head. I was surprised that she hadn't stomped her foot along with this tantrum she was having. "I just wanted you to have some fun for once." And with that, she stormed off back to her group.

I pinched the bridge of my nose and sighed. "Would you like another drink miss?" The bartender asked politely from behind me. Twisting back around to look at her, I just nodded my head. It was going to be a long night. "I remember going out with my younger sister and she acted just like that." She commented as she placed another drink in my hand. "Good luck dragging her home tonight." I only smiled and nodded again.

Younger sister huh? I guess when you looked at it, it would appear that I was older. This is what an older sibling would do right? Look after  their younger sibling, keep them out of trouble and harms way? I took a sip from the tall glass and resumed my relaxed state. Elbow propped against the bar, starring out at the mass of people dancing across the floor.

I wanted to be like them. Laughing, swaying to the music. I couldn't though, not mentally at least. Sure I could go out there and fake it but where was the fun in that. I was content right where I was and nothing would change that. This is who I am. I lived my life on the sidelines, always watching, always waiting. My joy came from Emma. It always has. I was happy when she was happy.

Pretty pathetic, I know.

I grew up being told my purpose in this life was to protect her at all costs. The Alpha drilled those very words into me every single day of my life after the incident where I learned I had a beast living inside of me but even before that, this was natural for me. I didn't do it because I was commanded to do so, I did it because she was family. My one and only family. It didn't matter that we didn't have the same blood running through our veins. Blood isn't always thicker than water.

I watched as she twirled and moved, becoming slightly anxious as she immersed herself deeper within the crowd. The later it became,  the more people filled the building. I knew I should have told that body guard to be stricter on the amount of people he let in. I started to stand up and go remind her to stay close to the bar when the smell of blood and dirt hit my nostrils.

"Leach" I growled loud enough for him to hear.

Seaming to appear out of no where, a man stood next to me. "Hello dog." Turning my head just enough to look at him while I kept Emma in my sights, I sized up the vampire. While his skin was pale, like all of his kind, it held a slight glow showing that he had recently fed. His eyes matched his suit. Black on black which only made his skin even more white. "Your a long way from home." He stated with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Where is your pack?"

Emma was surround by humans. I was sure that their sweaty smell easily masked her own but I didn't want to take any chances. After scanning the crowd for more leaches, I turned my full attention to the one before me. Keeping my body causal and relaxed, I took another sip before addressing him. "This is no mans lands leach. What do you want?" No mans lands were a term that we used for pretty much a free zone. Neither pack nor vampire clans laid claim to them.

"I am merely here to have some fun, same as you as I presume." His smile was starting to creep me out. I wanted so bad to drag Emma's ass out of here but I couldn't risk drawing attention to her. The last thing I wanted to do was put her at risk.

"Your right. I'm here to relax and have a good time. Something that you are ruining." I snarled.

"Now, now. That's no way to treat someone dog." He teased, his voice taking on a seductive tone. "You and I could have some fun together, what do you say?" He began to lean towards me. His hand reaching out to brush my hair that had strayed into my face, but before he could even touch it, my hand shot out and grabbed ahold of his own.

My beast attempted to rush to the surface but I clamped down tight on her hold. "Don't." My voice threatened. "I have no desire to play your games so don't test me." I squeezed his wrist for good insurance until his smile faltered. Pain showing in his eyes.

"I could make you play my games." His eyes focusing on my own, attempting to compel me. I just laughed harshly and released my hold on him, returning my attention to the drink I was nursing.

Rule number one, you can't compel other who are also able to compel. At least that's the general rule, of course there are always exceptions. Like if they are much much older and a whole lot stronger, they might be able to but it's still a big might. Don't ask why, that's just how it works.

"Good luck with that." I smirked as he started to frown, obviously confused at his lack of ability. I took the opportunity to search the crowed for Emma was he watched me with heated eyes.

"You won't find her dog." My heart began to pound in my chest.

"While for whatever unknown reason I can't compel you.." My hands started to clam up.

"That doesn't mean I can't compel others." I swung around to face him.

Now his smile reaches his eyes. "Better go find her."
