"Your public needs you." Andr said to Carlotta.
Firmin winced a little. "We need you... too."
"Would you not rather have your precious little ingnue?"
Both Firmin and Andr sang together. "Signora, no. The world wants you.
Prima donna,
first lady of the stage!
Your devotees
are on their knees
to implore you!"
"Can you bow out
when they're shouting
your name?" Andr exclaimed.
"Think of how they all adore you." Firmin rolled his eyes and grabbed Carlotta's hand.
"Prima donna,
enchant us once again."
"Think of the muse." Andr seemed to be stuck in how own world holding Carlotta's hand.
"And of the cues round the theatre." Only Firmin seemed to hate her as much as everyone else did.
"Can you deny us the triumph in store?
Sing prima donna once more."
Carlotta seemed to be out of words until she threw her gloves at Piangi and began to sing.
"Prima donna your song shall live again
You took a snub
But there's a public who needs you.
Think of their cry of undying support
Follow where the limelight leads you.
Prima donna your song shall never die
You'll sing again
And to unending ovation
Think how you'll shine
in that final encore!
Sing, prima donna,
once more!" They began to change Carlotta out of her long thick outfit to the even larger and thicker outfit as the Countess.
Andr and Firmin believed that I or Christine had been sleeping with Erik... Which had been true.
"Who'd believe a diva
happy to relieve a
chorus girl, who's gone
and slept with the patron?
Raoul and the soubrette,
entwined in love's duet!
Although he may demur,
he must have been with her!"
All on stage began to sing from a plot that I couldn't see in Raoul's eyes.
"Light up the stage
with that age-old rapport!
Sing, prima donna,
once more!"
Erik growled and heightened his voice on the stage. He was so loud I had to put my hands over my ears.
"So, it is war between us! If these demands are not met, a disaster beyond your imagination....will occur!"
Carlotta smirked, Raoul jumped, and Firmin and Andr flinched at the sound of his voice.
"Once.... MORE!" They all sang.
He pulled me along with him, down once more to the dungeon of his. But I was happy to go down there.
"Brighten?" Meg's sudden voice alarmed me.
Erik stood in front of me now.
"Meg." I said.
Erik growled at her. "Why do you dare follow us."
"Brighten is my best friend... So is Christine... I want to see this devil they've been with."
"He's no devil!" I yelled. "He's an angel of music.
My angel of music."
"So this is who has been controlling the performances, who plays who..." she said.
Erik nodded and sang.
"I am the Phantom of The Opera."
She smirked and frowned.
"You are the Phantom of The Opera."
"Meg. Meg. You know nothing about him. You know nothing about his life."
"I know that with him around he can do nothing but bad."
We heard the drums as soon as she said that.
"You brought them here with you." I yelled.
"I brought them for justice!" she argued.
"Erik!" I yelled.
He stared at me. "Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Let me lead you from your solitude
Say you need me with you here, beside you
Anywhere you go, let me go too."
I began to cry as he handed me the ring I had once thrown at him. a ring of proposal.
"Brighten... I love you."
He kissed my forehead and Meg began to sing to me, to comfort me.
"Then say you'll share with me one friendship, one lifetime
Let me lead you from your solitude
Say you need me with you here, beside you
Anywhere you go, let me go too."
I heard Erik inhale sharply as we began to walk out.
"It's over now, the music of the night."
I cried even harder as I listened to his last song. He would be dead by evening come, and I knew I would find something newer to hold onto.
I slipped the ring onto my left finger and decided. I wouldn't be Brighten May. Brighten Phantom. that would be my name. I would be the Phantom's wife forever.
