~Year 845~

"Ansel!" a little girl cried. A boy who looks as if he were the age of twenty, with reddish brown hair and icy blue eyes, came towards her.

"Good morning little girl," He greeted her with a smile on his pale freckled cheeks, softening his muscular physic.

"I'm not a little girl anymore Ansel! I'm already ten and you know that!" She crossed her arms and pouted.

Ansel walked up to her while he was drying his hands onto his apron. He crouched down and ruffled her hair, "You're still my little sister aye, (y/n)?" He said as he smiled.

"Yes," She said happily, matching his charming smile.

He called her over to the table to eat breakfast which consisted of potato stew, loaves of bread, and a small bowl of freshly cut strawberries that Ansel picked from the garden. She sat on one end of the wooden rectangular table and he sat on the other end. It was only the two of them in a small cottage just near the southern outlier of Wall Maria, the Shiganshina District.

"(y/n)" Ansel said, putting down his cup of coffee. She looked at him with her full attention. "I've decided to go back to the Scouts."

It took a minute before she completely understood those words. Her only living relative, returning to become a member of the Scouts, meaning he would leave her and never come back. Ansel had talked about rejoining the Scouts for a while. He used to tell her stories of his adventures with them and his encounter with the Titans. He would also tell her about other regiments like the Military Police Brigade, which she favored the least, and the Garrison Brigade, where their friend Mr. Hannes chose to serve.

"You've only been here for about a month. You're leaving....again?" She asked breaking the silence around the table.

He looked at her, "You and I both know I have to go back eventually," he replied as he scooped a spoonful of soup. Silence surrounded the room for a while and only the sound of utensils clashing onto the plates were heard.

"Then I'm coming with you!"

Ansel's eyes widened at her response.

"I'm coming with you. There's no way I'm going to risk losing you!" She raised her voice and slammed her palms onto the table as tears began to brim her eyes, "Not after mom and dad..." she whispered as she slumped back into her seat.

A small gasp came from him, "I..." was all that came out of Ansel's mouth. He sighed, "You're going to stay with the Arlert family like before," He said, rather a bit coldly, as he took their plates to the sink.

"Fine," she finally spoke, "I'll stay with them, but promise me one thing big brother," She stood up from her seat, "when I'm old enough to join the Cadets, promise me you'll still be alive."

Ansel was shocked, "(y/n)...I..." he sighed and relaxed his shoulders. He rinsed his hands and walked up to the little girl. He placed his hands on her small shoulders. She pulled him into a hug, tears began running down her cheeks, "I will never die. Not in the hands of the titans." He said rubbing her back.

She pulled away and wiped her tears. Her eyes were now red and so was her nose.

"Here," he said as he removed a thin chain from his neck, hanging onto it was a silver ring, "No matter where I am, I'm always with you. Near or far or maybe miles apart. Do you understand?" He placed the chain around her neck.

She nodded and hugged him once more.
