Azalea's Perspective....

Hazel failed. She failed. I should feel bad for her but I can't. How could she do that to all of us? We are a prestigious family and to be related to a Stone is just an embarrassment. I hide my anger as I open my letter from the Crown to see which area of the Gem Districts I will live in. "Congratulations! You have achieved the highest Test score in the history of the Crown! You will live with 10 other passing Gems that achieved a score of higher than 450 in the Diamond district. You will move in tomorrow when the Crown buses come to pick you up."

The Diamond District?! That is the best Sector to be in! Fame, fortune, riches for the rest of my life! Hazel burst into tears and ran out of the house, sobbing hysterically when she read her letter. Mom ran out after her and left me. Hazel's letter was on the ground and I picked it up. "We regret to inform you that you did not pass your test and will be picked up tomorrow morning to be taken to the Stone Sector." I sighed. What would happen to my parents now that they have a prodigy and and outcast?

I couldn't take it anymore. Hazel had been moping around for three hours now and it was getting on my nerves. I opened her bedroom door and leaned against the frame. "Are you just going to throw a pity party until you leave? Because you're really annoying me." She looked hurt and began crying again. I rolled my eyes. "I'm s-s-sorry, Azalea. I j-j-just wanted to be a Gem!" Taking a deep breath, I shouted back, "Well you FAILED, okay? You aren't going to be a Gem and never will!" Hazel's eyes widened with disbelief and she mumbled, "I thought you would be nice to me. I guess I was wrong." Angrily, I stormed out and went to pack my bags. If she wanted to cry and act like a baby, that's her problem. At least I'll live a long and prosperous life.

That night, all I could think about was living in the Diamond District in a beautiful home, being best friends with District leaders, and having everything I will ever need. And all I could hear was Hazel crying. Finally, she stopped and I figured she was asleep. I felt a little guilty at the way I yelled at her earlier, I mean, the tests probably aren't that accurate. But she still failed and disgraced our whole family. I brushed away the thought with visions of myself in a beautiful dress shaking hands with the Crown leaders on the big screens in the central square. I couldn't wait for tomorrow.
