Obsidian woke as dark decided to settle in. Rune was sitting, still, just barely inside the mouth of the cave. Obsidian rose on her talons and strode over to sit beside Rune.
"So... You were sent to kill us, but you disobeyed your queen's direct order so you could save us?" Obsidian questioned.
"Yeah, in order to protect you." Rune said. She looked over at Obsidian. "Do you trust me?"
"Of course, you proved your trustworthiness." Obsidian stated.
"So, you trust me fully and completely?" Rune asked.
"Well... No, but you have earned a level that few others have."
"And what would that be?"
"Well on the way to complete trust. Not Pyro's level but as if you were my new friend. Which is what you are."
"Okay..."
"Hey, have you ever seen another Impossible Nightmare?"
"Pure?"
Obsidian nodded her head.
"Only once. It was before I met Astralis." Rune started. "I was in the Kingdom of Ice serving for Kraken as a mercenary. One day she hired another nightmare, Mercer I think it was, to assassinate her daughters mate."
"Why would she do that?"
"Rumor was he had wronged her in some fashion, but I'm pretty sure she just hated him."
"Was he going to be prince?"
"Yeah, again, I don't think she wants a son-in-law."
"Odd..."
"I agree." Pyro rolled over in his sleep and Obsidian went over to wake him.
"Obsidian" Rune said. "This was a good talk."
"Yeah, it was." Obsidian said. She then proceeded to wake Pyro.
I wish it could've lasted longer... Rune thought.
