PROLOGUE
"I just don't understand why you have to go." Chloe sighed, her eyes searching deep into her girlfriends eyes, hoping to find an ounce of hope. There seemed to be none. "You have a job here. Residual Heat is here, and you can work your way up and get promoted, and your friends are here, and... and I'm here."
Beca wanted to go. She always has, knowing that her heart belongs in Los Angeles. But she didn't want to leave Chloe. That was always the thought that killed her. "Chloe, if I move to L.A. I don't have to wait to be promoted! Capitol really wants to make something out of my EP with Emily, and they want me to work with Katy Perry! Residual Heat wants me to search the internet for the next One Direction." The tiny brunette took a step toward her girlfriend, but stopped the second the red head took a step back. "Baby, please... I don't want to leave you, but I have such an amazing business opportunity in front of me... I'd be an idiot to say no!"
"Well, I guess business is more important than love, now isn't it?" Chloe gave her blue eyed girlfriend a sad smile and shook her head. "Goodbye, Beca."
---
Beca shook herself out of the flashback as she heard screams of terror surround her, and pierce through her soundproof headphones. Removing the music, she realized quickly what was happening. She looked out of the window to her left and saw the plane rapidly descending, explaining the horrible feeling in her stomach, similar to the one you feel as you're going down on a roller coaster, except this time much, much more intense. The captain came over the intercom, telling everyone to prepare for an emergency landing, and that they had lost an engine. The air bags fell from the ceiling and Beca was quick to place hers on her face, as she held on tightly to her arm rests and shut her eyes tightly. That's all she could do. Beca Mitchell was terrified, and knew that this could be the end, yet she couldn't scream like the others, she couldn't cry like the others, all she could do was close her eyes and hope.
---
Beca woke up surrounded by rubble and dust. She looked around to see broken plane pieces here and there, bodies of her fellow passengers, some barely alive, others already passed on. Beca felt a pain deep in her gut and looked down to see a piece of metal sticking out of her abdomen. Beca laughed. She didn't know why, but laughing seemed like the only thing to do, until slowly her laughter turned into tears and genuine fear. "I'm so sorry Chloe... I'm so sorry." The brunette whispered over and over again. "I shouldn't have moved to L.A." Beca stared down at the large hunk of metal and she wanted to scream, but it hurt too badly to move. She heard multiple screams, and a few cries for help, and all she could do was cry.
A helicopter sounded above them, and two men who weren't too badly hurt stood up and began waving their hands in the air, trying to get their attention. More and more helicopters appeared, sending doctors and rescue teams down, taking more and more people, one by one, dead and alive.
Finally a man, who had a large scar up his arm, made his way over to Beca, he looked her up and down, smirked, and said "You're a fighter, aren't you?" Beca just stared at him. He laughed a bit and shook his head before calling to his friend, who was about to help another woman, and the other man ran towards them, giving Beca the same once over as the first guy. The man with the scar and his friend placed Beca on a board before lifting her up and rushing away from the scene.
Beca began panicking, unsure of what was going on. "Where are we going?" Beca asked, frantically, wincing in pain. "Please, just help me."
"Oh, we will. When we're done, you'll be as good as new." The second man replied. "Better, even."
