3 hours were left now. The girls were in one of the bathrooms now looking for something that could possibly pry open the front door. Within the last 12 hours they had only heard footsteps passing the bathroom door very slowly. As Nessa and Natania were looking around the bathroom for anything that would pry open the front door Natania walked across the room to the left side of the bathroom away from Nessa. Natania noticed something different about her reflection, it didn't look like her. Her reflection had a grim smile on its face while she had a very straight face. The reflection also had torn up clothes and a pale complexion unlike Natania's complexion. Nessa finally looked around at Natania and caught her looking at the mirror with a shocked face.
"Natania, what's wrong?" Nessa asked breaking Natania out of the trance she had fallen into.
"N-nothing", Natania replied.
Natania couldn't find the energy or words to tell Nessa what she was seeing. Instead of continuing to stare at the mirror Natania just walked towards the set of cabinets on the left side of the bathroom.
Inside of the first cabinet that Natania looked in there was a picture of a girl that looked just like Beth with longer hair and a sucked in face. The picture reminded Natania of Beth but it also reminded her that Beth was not Beth anymore. She placed the photo back into the cabinet and pushed it back in.
"Maybe there's something in the attic!" Nessa yelled in excitement.
"Do you really want to go back up there after what happened to Beth?" Natania asked.
"We don't have a choice", Nessa said seriously.
Natania simply nodded her head and proceeded to open the bathroom door and leave the room followed by Nessa. The journey to the attic felt like it had lasted an hour but it had only lasted five minutes in the dark. When the girls got up into the attic there was a drastic change in the temperature. The attic was extremely cold and the girls were hit by the smell of something decomposing. The smell was expected because there were two dead rats under the attic window that looked to be dead for a while. The girls looked around for a while in boxes and under sheets until Natania found a long flat piece of iron that could possibly pry open the front door.
"Nessa, maybe this will work", Natania said catching Nessa's attention.
"Yh, I hope so. Let's go", Nessa said keeping her excitement in.
"Wha-", Natania began to say but was cut off by Nessa shutting her up.
Nessa placed her hand over Natania's mouth and pointed down to tell Natania that there was a sound coming from downstairs. The noise sounded like the cackling of an old woman and it seemed to be moving around downstairs.
"Come out, come out wherever you are." The voice came from downstairs.
Nessa slowly removed her hand from over Natania's mouth and made a sign for her to be quiet. The sound of something hitting the floor and breaking came from the floor right below the attic. Whatever made the sound was clearly large enough to make such a loud sound. The girls both looked at each other with both confused and startled looks. After a few seconds the girls snapped out of their shock and realized that all the noise had stopped very suddenly.
"Should we still go back down there?" Natania asked timidly.
Nessa simply nodded her head and began to quietly walk towards the stairs leading down to the floor below the attic followed by Natania. When the girls got to the last step they realized they were now in the open and anyone or anything could clearly see them. The girls looked at each other and Nessa spotting the fear in Natania's eyes grabbed her wrist and pulled her along. As the girls walked down the stairs towards the living room their hearts began beating faster than they ever had before. The girls got closer and closer to the front door without anything happening to them, but as they got closer they were sure something was about to happen to them but nothing ever did. Natania slowly walked in front of Nessa, iron in her hand and fear in her tear filled eyes. Natania's hands were shaking when she shoved the piece of iron between the space between the old wooden door and the door frame. She pushed the iron to the left in a way that it would pry open the wooden door but instead of prying open the door it bent in half and could not be used anymore. Nessa realized that their plan wasn't working and knew that Natania would follow her so she began to run and Natania didn't hesitate to run away also.
The girls ran back to the attic and squeezed themselves into a corner hugging each other. The girls sat in their positions for a while until the air in the attic became colder and colder and a strong breeze began to blow but none of the windows in the attic we're open. The girls stood up and looked around but there was nothing in the room to cause such a cold breeze. Natania looked up at the small clock on the wall and there was one hour and twenty minutes left until they would be let out of the house if "the man" was telling the truth. Without warning shelves began falling and boxes began flying at Nessa and Natania. The girls were trying their best to dodge the boxes and glass objects but they couldn't avoid all of the objects flying at them. A glass bottle flew at Nessa's forehead and knocked her out.
"Nessa, wake up!" Natania yelled.
Nessa had dropped to the floor loudly. The boxes and glass objects didn't stop flying at the girls though, it had only gotten worse. Natania was now alone and scared. She placed Nessa's head on her lap and waited until she woke up while silently crying.
When Nessa woke up all of the boxes and broken pieces of glass were scattered all over the attic floor. Natania felt relief wash over her when Nessa woke up, but she realized that they only had twenty minutes until they would be able to get out of the house. Natania grabbed Nessa's hand and tried to get her to stand up.
"Come on, come on. We need to go!", Natania yelled urgently.
"What?" Nessa asked shakily.
"We need to go now. We only have a few minutes to get out of here."
When Nessa heard those words spill out of Natania's mouth she got up and they ran down the stairs to the living room. When the girls got to the last step leading to living room empty shelves began flying at them and pieces of the roof began breaking off and almost crushing them. The girls kept tripping and falling while trying to dodge the large pieces of the roof almost falling on them. As if the pieces of roof almost crushing them and the objects flying at them weren't enough the sheets covering different objects began catching a fire and smoke began making it hard for them to see anything.
"Natania, take my hand!" Nessa yelled.
Luckily Natania heard Nessa and followed her voice then grabbed her hand. The girls pushed their way through the smoke and finally felt the door with their hands. The door swung open and the girls could see the bright lights of police cars, ambulances and firetrucks. The last thing the both girls remember seeing as they were being carried away by a fireman was Beth's pale face in the window of the attic and then she just walked away. They knew that even though the face belonged to Beth that it wasn't her anymore, she was long gone.
ONE WEEK LATER
"I can't believe they didn't find her body or even her bones." Natania's mom said hugging Natania.
"Y-yeah", Natania stuttered but she knew the truth and she knew that it would haunt her for the rest of her life.
Nessa and her family moved away and started new lives. Natania and her family moved to a different state but they both carried some things with them, the truth about the house, what happened to Beth and the nightmares about what happened in the house.
THE END.
