"Welcome home!" Catherine beamed.

Lynn slowly opened the door of the car and stepped out, then walked over to the trunk of the car and began helping Catherine unload their luggage.

Once they finished, Lynn followed Catherine up the porch and into her house. Lynn looked around. The house was nice, better than anything she remembered living in.

"Ana! Markus!" Catherine yelled for her kids, "Come down here, please!"

Ana, Lynn assumed, peeked her head around the corner, "Mom," she complained, dragging out the o, "it's way to early to- oh, uh, hey." She ran a hand through her hair, walked down the stairs and sat down at the kitchen table. Her brother followed her in silently and quickly waved at Lynn before laying his head down on the table.

"Um... hello, long time no see?" Lynn awkwardly laughed as the two younger teenagers in front of her showed no signs of further acknowledgment.

Eventually, Markus spoke up, "Welcome to our humble abode." He smiled sarcastically.

Catherine glared at him. "Lynn here is going to be living with us now since Auntie died."

"So that's why I had to clean out the guest room all by myself?"

"Hey! I helped you!" Markus defended himself from Ana.

Catherine sighed. "Why don't we make breakfast and then show Lynn around Sydney?" She said in a tone that sounded more like a command than a suggestion.

"So, how old are you?" Ana looked at Lynn.

"I'm eighteen."

"I'm fifteen, but I'll be sixteen in a couple months. Markus' just turned fourteen like, a week ago." Ana said, kicking a rock on the road. They continued walking until Ana looked up and pointed to a building, "That's my school. It's an absolute hell hole. I don't recommend."

"My school was about the same. I fucking hated it, but I stayed in school just because I wanted to eventually support my mom, but I guess it's a bit too late for that." Lynn said shrugging. It was true, Lynn had plans of getting a good job so she could send her mom to rehab. She also wanted to buy her mom a little house in a nicer neighborhood.

"You really loved your mum, yeah?" Ana questioned.

"She was there for me most of the time, and I was so grateful. She was kind of distant and acted weird toward the end, but I still loved her nonetheless."

After that, the girls kept walking toward town in silence.

It was nearly three in the afternoon by the time Ana and Lynn got back. Lynn said hello to her Aunt and then had Ana show her to the old guest room, which would be her room now.

The guest room was an averaged sized grey-walled room with two windows in it. It was across the hallway from Ana's room and was next to Markus' room. There was a double bed in the middle of the room, a table in the corner, and a closet near the door. The room wasn't that inviting, but Lynn loved it anyway.

Lynn began unpacking, a rather tedious task, when Catherine came into her room.

"How's it going?"

"Uh, good so far."

"If you want, I'll take you shopping for room things, sorry its a little bland." Catherine offered.

"It's fine, I actually love it. It's really nice, thank you."

"Well, if you need anything, I'll be downstairs." Catherine said as she left, closing the door behind her.

Lynn continued unpacking until she became hungry, then ate food and laid down on her bed. She realized how tired she was and decided to go to bed.
