Walking away was the easiest thing I have ever done. I never felt so relieved and fulfillment at the same time. I was relieved of the harassment and torment from my fellow pack members and family. I was fulfilled because I have no one telling me I can't be or do what I wanted to achieve.
As I was walking through the forest I took a deep breath. The smell of fresh rain, flowers blooming possibly azaleas, and fresh water. Hearing the river raging to the west of me told me I have about 12 more miles till I come into human territory. I passed over the pack territory line three miles back. Hopefully I am far enough away so no one will track me.
I decided to take a break along side the river. Needing to rest my feet and legs due to the long journey ahead, and get some water. Sitting on the river bank watching the deer and rabbits running on the other side when all of sudden they all stopped. The two deer looked at me and ran away along with the rabbits.
"Well, that was strange," I say to myself. Getting ready to gather my things to start my journey again when I felt a pain in my legs. I looked to see if a snake or another animal has bitten me but nothing.
I stood up and immediately feel to the ground in agonizing pain throughout my whole body. I was not sure where the pain started and stopped. It kept getting worse. My whole body was on fire. I tried to move my arms to get my clothes off but I couldn't move. I wanted to scream but I couldn't. I felt as if my body was pushing me out of it.
Then I heard the cracking sound. I assumed it was a werewolf coming to help but I didn't see anyone around. The cracking started in my legs and moved to my arms and hands. I never felt so much pain in my life. I wanted to die. I wanted it to end.
I kept breathing in and out. Deep breaths. Until finally I collapsed. I couldn't move. I couldn't open my eyes. But the smells were amazing. The fresh rain was coming, soon by the smell. I could smell the faint remains of the deer and rabbits from earlier.
'How can I smell them from before?' I thought.
'Because our senses are better now.'
My eyes flung open as soon as I heard the voice. I was looking around but didn't see anyone.
Bark bark bark. Whimpering.
'What the hell!' I think to myself. I decided to try and stand but I fall back down. I look at my hands only to see two white paws. Yes, I said paws.
'What the...' I thought.
'You are very weak from the change Hailey. You need to rest for a few minutes before you can change back into your human form.'
'Who said that?' I ask, well think.
'Cassandra, your wolf,' she says.
'I HAVE A WOLF!'
'Yes, and you do not have to yell. I know you have lots of questions, but right now we need to rest.'
'Ok. How do I change back to my human self?'
'Just picture your human body. Every detail from your feet to your hair.'
I did as Cassandra told me to do. I felt the bones forming into my human skeleton again. Thankfully this time it didn't hurt as much. I was sore. My muscles were sore but no pain.
'You should rest a few minutes, but we need to move on. I don't feel we will be safe from our old pack here,' Cassandra said.
"Ok. I will do that."
'You don't have to speak out loud to talk to me. Just think it and I will hear it.'
'Oh! Sorry I didn't know. No one told me these things. No one wanted to because I never shifted. Why did you wait to shift now?'
'I will explain everything when we stop for the night. But for now rest your body and mind. You will need it Hailey.'
'Ok'
I sat on by the river bank for an hour until I felt rested enough to walk. I had to figure out where to go now. I was heading to the human territory because I didn't have my wolf but now that I do I should try to find a new pack.
'We can figure that out after I tell you why I waited to show myself.'
