"I'm starting to regret helping them out," Dinah said, climbing out of her truck and entering the dollar store. "What are we looking for, anyway?"

You entered behind her and checked your texts from Normani. "Well, Mani said to get balloons, ribbons, candy, and lots of tape. And whatever else we feel like."

"Great. That's great."

Your phone buzzed again. "And she says don't forget the theme."

"What's the theme again?"

"Being a junior is a party, or something like that."

"That's stupid."

"It's cute."

"You're cute."

"Mhm. I know." You turned into the party supply aisle. "What color?"

She shrugged tiredly. "I don't know. Get a variety."

You grabbed an assortment of different colored streamers, balloons, and confetti, and party hats to top it off.

"Party hats?" Dinah asked. "Really?"

You frowned. "You don't like them? I thought they'd be festive."

She rolled her eyes. "Okay. Whatever."

"You're snappy today."

She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "Sorry, I'm just... never mind. Let's get the candy and go."

You eyed her suspiciously. "Alright."

She led you to the candy aisle and scooped up a few bags, and you did the same.

"Do you think this is enough?" You asked, only receiving a nod in return. After grabbing half the store's tape supply, you paid and left with your bags.

Once Dinah started her truck up, she turned to face you. "Y/N, we gotta talk about the dance."

"Okay. What about it?"

"Where we're taking pictures, where we're eating, what our plans are afterward, that kind of stuff," she explained as she pulled out of the parking lot and started toward the school.

"Do we have to take pictures?"

"Yes. My mom will kill me if we don't."

"Are we gonna take cringey couple pictures? Like the ones you did with Nela last year?"

Dinah gagged. "Don't even mention him. How did you find those, anyway?"

"Your mom's Instagram."

"Ugh," she groaned, "I told her to delete those."

"You looked hot."

"Thank you. And stop trying to change the subject. We're gonna take pictures and they're gonna be cute."

You sighed. "Fine. I'll go to your house at five. We can eat after that."

"Okay. Anywhere you really wanna go?"

"No. Surprise me."

"If you say so," she laughed.

"Dinah, that's not very assuring so I'm gonna set some boundaries. Don't take me to any weak ass vegan place, or any hipster joint that doesn't serve food on plates."
