"This feels wrong," you mumbled to yourself, taking in your appearance in your tightly fitted red homecoming dress. Your hair was done in a simple braid via Hailey, and you applied light makeup for once in your life. You looked good, you really did, except for the frown sitting on your lips.
"What feels wrong?" Hailey asked, entering your room.
You sighed, smoothing down your dress. "Ben hasn't even gotten out of the hospital and I'm going to some dumb dance."
"It's not dumb. You've been looking forward to this for weeks," she countered, coming up behind you and moving your braid over your shoulder.
"Maybe. But isn't family more important?"
She leaned her head against your arm. "How many homecoming dances do you get in your life? Four? Benny isn't dead, Y/N. You'll have plenty of time with him after this dance."
You smiled sadly, turning to face your sage younger sister. "You're right."
"Of course I am." You hugged her, but it was interrupted by the honk of a car horn outside. "You better go, that's probably Dinah."
You grabbed your phone and headed out of your room, but stopped when you reached the threshold. "Are you sure you're gonna be okay alone?"
She pushed you out of your bedroom and nearly down the stairs. "I'll be fine. Mom should be back in an hour anyway."
"Okay, bye Hales! Love you!" You called as you shut your front door, making sure to lock it.
Dinah stood outside, smirking as she leaned up against her truck. She was wearing a very tight black dress, with black heels to match. It contrasted nicely with her loose blonde waves.
"You look nice," she commented, pecking your lips quickly but lovingly and opening up your door for you.
You climbed in, careful not to rip anything. "Where are we going for dinner?"
"Hold your horses, we still gotta take pictures." She buckled up and drove in the direction of her house. "But I think you're gonna like where we eat."
Dinah still wore that same smirk, and it made you skeptical. "What are you planning?"
"Me? Nothing."
"Liar."
Your suspicions were validated when after what you thought was far too many pictures, Dinah wheeled you two into a Wendy's parking lot.
You shot her a look that said 'are you fucking kidding me?' and she held her hands up in surrender.
"I don't know why you seem shocked," she laughed, getting out of the car and helping you down as well. "We decided Wendy's was the only option."
"I didn't think you'd actually take me to a Wendy's."
"Never underestimate me, babe."
You both ordered burgers, fries, and frosties, and it was surprisingly romantic, seeing as no one else occupied the small restaurant.
"See? Wasn't this nice?" Dinah asked as you threw your trash away.
"No," you replied in an annoyed tone.
Dinah took your hand as she opened the door. "Cmon, you thought it was cute."
"You're cute, but a Wendy's is not."
"At least you think I'm cute," she relented as you got back into your vehicle and Dinah drive toward the school.
"You're my girlfriend," you reminded her, causing her to smile, "I'm kind of obligated to acknowledge your cuteness."
