I don't know what to do now.

Should I ask her or pretend I never saw it? Will I really get an answer or is this just another one of my delusions--desperate attempts to feel that she's alive?

I'm really tired right now. I haven't recovered much from the revelation I've known and this adds up. I don't know if this is some sick joke or is this really real.

But the only way was to ask.

I spared no time and headed down the stairs with so much speed. My heart was pounding rapidly as I braise myself from the truth; the truth that has been hidden to me for almost two years.

"Mother," I paused, calmly trying to control my anger and desire for answers.

I had to be reminded that this is my mother and I know she has a reason for this. I couldn't just blow a fuse knowing that she's also suffering and this does not only revolve me.

On my other hand was the paper I ripped from the journal. I clutched it so tightly to the point it was wrinkled so badly.

"Where is Star burried?" she looked at me in suprise. "In Mewni, Marco. Why?"

I took a deep breath. My breath was shaky and buckets of sweat came trickling down my forehead. "Why weren't we there to visit her funeral?"

She paused. "Why are you asking me this?"

Here comes. "I don't want to accuse you. You know I hate liars right?"

"Is something the matter?" she glanced at me worriedly.

"I'm really grateful that you showed me this journal," I reply. "--I could've made the biggest mistake of my life."

"You're hiding something from me aren't you?" I struck her when she let her guard down.

"What do you mean? I never hid anything from you Marco."

"How could you lie to me Mom?" I asked while my heart was throbbing in pain.

"How could you lie to me for two fucking straight years?" I say in disbelief.

I lifted the crumpled paper and slammed it down the counter. "Read that Mom," I gritted, clenching my teeth.

Her eyes roamed around the paper, then she looked at me in horror with tears beginning to form at the edge of her eyes. "W-where did you find this?"

"You tell me," I deadpanned, too numb to feel any sympathy from this point.

"All I did was to protect you," she whispered, finally saying something after a minute of silence.

"Protect me?" I said hysterically. "--was hiding the truth protecting me at all?"

"Why did you hide to me the fact that she survived the accident?" I countered her.

"Because I wasn't certain if she really did lived and I didn't want to get your hopes up!" she roared.

"Then how did you know she survived?!"

"It was an accident!" she sobbed.

"What do you mean?" I looked at her in confusion.

"On that night, you ran away," she trails off. "--you al-almost got ran over by a car but Star saved you and took the fall."

I widened my eyes, my head throbbing by the words that she said. "Didn't she got ran over when she was out to find me?"

"That's the thing," she eyed me. "--your memories were altered by Star's parents."

S

he gave me a second to digest everything. I was so overwhelmed with my emotions I fell down the floor, my body unable to move and tears came streaming through my eyes. "What do you mean altered?"

"Star's parents changed your memories and it was your fault she got ran over. You were so out of thought that you didn't see the car that was rushing towards you."

"Fuck!" I roared.

"They took Star back to Mewni and a week later, I received a call. Moon said that Star didn't survive," she lowers her head.

"But I heard a faint voice in the background. It was her, screaming hysterically for your name," she walked towards me and knelt down to where we were face to face.

"Moon explained that she had a temporary amnesia, but the only thing she could remember was your name," she used her fingers to lift my chin and smiled sadly while wiping the tears that welled my eyes.

"I was so happy. But they pleaded I couldn't tell you," she sighed. "--they wanted Star to live a normal life and rule the kingdom without hesitating."

Another batch of tears fell from her eyes. "Believe me I wanted to tell you. It wasn't easy watching your own son suffer--b-but I had to!"

"M-mom," I croaked.

"I'm sorry," she wrapped her arms around me and rested her face on my shoulders as her back moved upwards then my shirt got wet but it didn't matter.

The only thing I could do was softly rub her back. I didn't know what to feel anymore.

To think she hid this all from me, carrying the burden for my sins.

The truth hurts. .maybe that's why she kept it from me.
