02. flashback

It was awkward silence between me and Hugh. I like Hugh, though. He's kind. I'm not very sure about this whole loop thing, though. It's going to take me awhile to get used to all of this, and regain trust.
Hugh just stares at me, smiling. I don't know why, I probably look like a mess because I was sleeping in a field of flowers.
"So, Fiona, wanna tell me why you were asleep in the flowers now?" Hugh asks. Almost like he read my mind.
I smile a small smile and shrug.
"Come on, you trust me don't you? We're friends, aren't we?" he asks.
I look to the side for a bit. I guess I should trust him. He did bring me here to protect me.
I sigh. "Well, my life wasn't good. It wasn't good when I showed I was...different..." I say. Hugh is watching me with deep interest. "My parents didn't like it, or more of my dad didn't like it. I don't understand. I was just trying to help. I figured instead of having to work I could just grow produce, but no. I was a freak..." I trailed off. I remember the night I had to leave. By then everyone in my small village new of my peculiarity. They wanted me out of their village. They chased me with pitchforks yelling that I was a witch. I hated my father for spreading my ability. Nobody trusted me, I had no friends. I'd get bullied. My father would abuse me. The only person I could trust was my mother, but I'm long gone now...
"Fiona? Fiona!" shouts Hugh.
"Oh, I'm sorry, what?" I say, dazed.
"Are you okay?" he asks.
"Uh..yeah." I say.
"Are you lying?"
"...yeah..."
"Fi, please, don't lie. Tell me anything I am here for you."
I look down at my hands on my lap, then I start to cry.
"Fi, get it off your chest."
"I just want a happy life." I say, sobbing.
"I promise you, you will have one as long as you stay here. They'll love you." Hugh says.
"Yeah it's just so hard..I don't trust anyone." I say.
"I'm sure you'll get around to trusting people here."
I smile, not knowing what to say now. "Well, Fiona, I say we better get going inside. It's almost supper time, and I want to introduce you to the other kids." says Hugh.
