03. reset
Me and Fiona go into the house and take our seats. We get there early, so I can have Fiona sit by me. "Miss Peregrine is a very good cook." I say.
"Right you are." says a voice.
I look around, then say, "Millard?"
"Uh huh." he says.
"You better put clothes on before Miss Peregrine yells at you again." I say.
"Alright, alright." he huffs, then a chair slides back, assuming he is getting up.
"Sorry." I say. "That's Millard, he's invisible."
Fiona smiles. "Interesting." she says.
Then, a pile of kids come stomping in, yelling at each other for nothing.
"Maybe if you weren't so wimpy the ball wouldn't of hit you." says Enoch.
"Maybe if you were nicer and thrown it easier I would've caught it." says Horace. He's holding ice up to his head.
"Now children, settle down." says Miss Peregrine. "It's dinner time, and I prepared some delicious food for you, so eat it."
Everyone starts to eat, so I start, too. I watch Fiona, and the next thing a bunch of bees start to fly out of my mouth. "Oh crap, sorry." I say, as I hurry to find my net.
"Hugh's too busy staring at his girlfriend over there he forgot his stupid net." says Enoch with a smirk.
I look up at him and smile, but shake my head. "She's not my girl-"
"Look! He's blushing! It must be true." says Olive.
I glance at Fiona, who is staring at her hands.
"She's not!" I yell.
"Kids, be nice." says Miss Peregrine. "Our new guest who will be staying with us is Fiona. I expect you to be friends with her."
"Where are you from, Fiona?" asks Emma.
"Oh...um...Ireland." Fiona says.
"What's your peculiarity?" asks Millard.
"I can..um..make plants grow."
"Agrokinesis." says Millard. "How interesting."
"Have you ever been to a loop before?" asks Bronwyn.
Fiona shakes her head no. It was silence for a bit.
"So you've never seen a loop reset?"
Fiona shakes her head no, then looks at me. The rest of the kids have their eyes on Miss Peregrine.
"Can we show her?"
"Pleeeeeeease?"
Miss Peregrine chuckles and nods. "Only if you wear your masks." she says.
We all stand up and go outside. I grab an extra mask for Fiona. "Put this on." I say. She looks at me with confusion, but obeys. Miss Peregrine looks back at her kids and smile. She pulls at a small clock and begins to rewind it.
Fiona watches how the sky changes colors. As planes fly through the sky, one releases a bomb, coming straight down towards us. I watch Fiona, but she doesn't move. It stops a few feet above us, then to be thrown back into the plane and reset. We take our masks off. Fiona looks at me and smiles.
We go back inside and everyone goes up to their rooms to get ready for bed. "Um, Miss Peregrine...where will Fiona sleep?" I ask.
"I think there is an extra bed in Emma's room." she says. "Hold on." She walks over to the end of the stairs. "EMMA IS THERE IN EXTRA BED IN THAT ROOM OF YOURS?" She yells up.
"YEAH, THERE IS." Emma yells back.
Miss Peregrine smiles. "I'm sure you can borrow some of Emma's clothes for now. Goodnight, Fiona."
Fiona smiles back, and I take her hand and walk her up to Emma's room.
"Emma's nice. You just have to watch...she might have an accident..." I say.
"An accident?" Fiona whispers.
"Uh...yeah...she might...burn a few things." I say. "Well here you are, goodnight, Fiona. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Goodnight, Hugh." says Fiona, going into the room. I smile, then go to mine.
