It was already well past the morning announcement when Hajime awoke. He didn't twitch in his sleep at all, waking up only because his body felt it was ready to. He stretched and yawned, per usual morning routine, only, it was now noon. He stood and brushed his teeth in his cottage's bathroom, skipping a shower until later that night. After, Hajime lazily tumbled out of his cottage, one heavy step at a time, smiling as the sunlight warmed his skin while the wind blew to cool the heat. "Along with the scent of the ocean," he said to himself, "this really is a paradise..." Not long after, he went to the restaurant to see the faces of Byakuya, like normal, Akane, normal as well, but two faces stood out. Nagito and Hiyoko are here? They never show up for breakfast, Hajime thought, joining them at their table that they were sitting at together.
As Hiyoko saw Hajime, she blushed and concealed laughter. But Nagito smiled and excitedly waved, "Hajime! Haven't seen you in a while!"
"Yeah," Hajime replied. "A day and a half really is a while on this island."
"Yep," Nagito said while folding his arms. "You won't really believe this. But Hiyoko-" as Nagito tried to say it, Hiyoko bopped him on the head and pouted. "Oops," Nagito said with a small laugh, "I forgot. I'll let her say it."
After that, Hiyoko said, "Nagito is my slave, too, now! I told him all the stuff I told you and now we both have all of each other's hope fragments! Now I can have two slaves!" As she said this, Hiyoko smiled and closed her eyes, putting her arms in the air as "yay!" body language would be.
Hajime smiled and have Hiyoko a small pat on the head. "I guess that's a good thing, then. I'm glad you're opening up to others now," he said with a smile, making Hiyoko blush and quiet down.
With the conclusion of that conversation, the three discussed hope fragments, and who they needed to collect them from. Hiyoko said, "I have all of them except for that creep cook and that big guy who keeps saying he'll do 'it' to me..." Hajime and Nagito laughed, both knowing what "it" truly meant. Nagito was next to answer; "I have everyone except for Gundham. He talks about me having a dangerous aura that his hamsters don't approve of." This made Hajime sign as he explained that Nagito should just try to force it a little, as Gundham is intent on being a self-titled being of darkness. So following that explanation, Hajime went on to inform the pair: "I actually got all of them. It took a bit of effort but I'm glad to know everyone so well now."
Nagito and Hiyoko were both amazed by this, as they have only been on Jabberwock Island for four weeks. "No guys, it's really nothing. I think everyone should get to know each other as well as possible!" Hajime said, not wanting to brag or feel extraordinary.

At the end of breakfast, Hiyoko went to look for Mahiru, leaving Nagito and Hajime alone at the table, which made the two blush as they silently sat together. They would've sat there for hours, and Hajime wouldn't have minded, but Nagito finally spoke after a few minutes, "Well... What do you want to do?" He tugged on the end of his own jacket's sleeve, nervous to confront Hajime after being angry yesterday. Hajime noted this movement, and looked Nagito in the eyes with a small and playful smile, "Maybe we could just sit on the beach and relax. I think usually we'd need a trip ticket. But Usami's been letting people go regardless since it's right next to the hotel. Same with Jabberwock Park on Central Island. It's been an eventful few days, so it'll be great to just wind down and watch the ocean. Oh, and don't worry about yesterday. I'm sure you had a good reason for faking sick." Nagito smiled, but on the inside he was frightened that Hajime knew he faked sickness."Hey, Hajime. How did you-"
Hajime replied, "Because, knowing you, you would've asked Mikan for help since you respect all of us, as you've said before."
Nagito sighed, forgetting that he allowed himself to sound insane in that conversation. He really would do anything for hope and friendship, even dying and going as far as murder. But meeting Hajime was starting to change that slowly. As if a new hope was forming inside of him. So he nodded, agreeing with Hajime to go to the beach.

The pair chatted a little more and then exited the restaurant, laughing and joking out of the hotel as normal teens boys. But then the conversation, as many pubescent guy friend talks do, quickly became dirty. Nagito brought up Hajime's introduction to Akane, to which Nagito remembered yelling(on purpose) "What's wrong, Hajime? Don't you like sexy girls?" Hajime flushed when this was brought up and said, "N-Nagito, you're lucky she didn't notice!" They then laughed, and then began talking about...Even more dirty things. By the time they were on the beach, sitting in the sand looking toward the ocean, they were in a full-on discussion about the hottest girls on the island.
They laughed and laughed, but it didn't feel right to Hajime. He didn't want to hide his feelings anymore. He decided this would be the time. This would be the moment. This would be Hajime's confession.
"Nagito..." Hajime said, trying not to let his voice be shaky.
Nagito looked at Hajime, trying not to blush at Hajime's bold face and strict tone, "Hmm? What is it?"
Hajime answered, "Nagito...We need to talk. I brought you here for an important reason."
Nagito swallowed back the lump that grew in his throat, nodding and listening intently, wondering where this would go. He was both excited and scared, not knowing what it was Hajime wanted of him.
Hajime continued, "I've been hiding this for a few days. Even a week. Or two, maybe. But I'm going to say it now. Nagito..."
