I walked out onto the main road. The people here knew nothing about me. What I had done. The people I killed. The traffic jostled me and i ducked into a ramshackle house and made my way upstairs. The paint was peeling from the wall and the smell of decay made me cough. Knocking on a door, I waited.
"Who is it?"
"It's Katherine. Mum let me in." The bolts clanked and the door creaked open.
"You're here! After last time I thought you would..." She stopped as I clenched my fist.
"Come see how Gracie is doing!" I walked into the other room, seeing my sister sitting on her bed. I pulled her into a hug, avoiding her arm.
"Is it feeling better?" I asked.
"A little, it's still sore..." I pulled an orange from my pocket and some coins from my purse, handing them to my mum.
"Make sure Gracie eats it, it will help her arm. Mum, I need to go."
"Already? Couldn't you sta..."
"Sorry. If they see me gone for too long..." I paused, glancing at Gracie.
"Bye." I walked out, shutting the door behind me. I glanced out the front door and stepped back out into the stream of traffic, spotting two figures looking for me. I hurried, fear gnawing at me. They will be angry, they don't like to be kept waiting. At least I did my job this time. Not like then...
