The end :)

Erin's pov

I wake up in a cold sweat, gasping for breath. Something stuck down my throat. A tube of some kind. It hurts. I pull it out choking on my saliva. "ETHAN" I scream. No one is there. I look at my clock across from my bed.

1:30 am

My phone. Where is my phone? The floor. I pick up my phone and look at the lock screen. The brightness burning my eyes. I squint. All I see are texts from Maddy saying that she's sorry. Why? She didn't do anything.

I get out of bed. My feet hitting the wood floor. The cold, hard floor. I'm attached to something. I rip it out of my arm. There is yet another cord on my finger. And a monitor on the wall. I run to the light switch. This isn't the apartment. This isn't Ethan's room.

I start to panic. My bare feet walk into the carpeted hallway. It gets harder to breathe. "My kids" I whisper. I run down the hallway at full speed expecting to find the nursery.

Nothing. There is nothing in the place of my kids nursery. Just an empty room. "Where are all the baby clothes? The cradles" I whisper.

I hear footsteps running up the stairs and a loud beeping noise.  A chill goes down my spine. I turn around and look at the door way. My hand still gripping my phone.

"Erin? Sweetie?" A voice I recall hearing often in my childhood asks. "W-Who are you" I stutter. "I'm your mother" the woman says. She walks closer to me. I back up.

"Mom where's Ethan? My kids?" I whisper. "Erin that's not real" she whispers. I can feel the pain in her voice. "What do you mean?" I ask.

"Erin do you not remember what happened?"
"No"
"I want you to feel your left temple. Do you feel those stitches?"
"Yes"
"Erin you and Maddy were on your way to Orlando. To see the Dolan twins. A semi-truck went through the red light and smashed into Maddy's car." My mom says walking closer to me. She lays a hand on my shoulder. I pull away.

"Erin, the car flipped over two lanes of traffic and landed in a ditch."
"Mom is Maddy-?"
"No she's ok. Someone called 911 and you were both airlifted to the hospital. You had several broken bones and a brain bleed. You went into surgery right away. Maddy had a fractured spine, she also went into surgery. Maddy was stabilized and healed fine. You were put on life support. The Surgeon said you were going to wake up. After waiting over a week for you to wake up we decided that we should bring you home so if you were ever going to wake up it would be in your bed. Your father and I have waited so long to have you back."

"Mom you have to be joking. I got married to Ethan and I have twins. Maddy is pregnant with Grayson's baby" I gasp.

"Erin I'm not. Go look in your room there is an IV drip and a breathing machine"

"How long have I been gone?" I ask. My voice shaking.

"2 months. Your father and I were never going to give up on you" she says crying. I look at my arm. There is a little blood dripping down it. The IV. I ripped it out. The tube down my throat, life support. The monitor on the wall, my heart beat.

"Mom it all felt so real" I start to sob. "I know honey" she whispers pulling me into her chest. "Ethan was there for me" the tears burning my face.

"Honey it was only a dream"

"But he was the love of my life...."
