Betty's POV:
I don't have much time left. I need for my legs to run faster, for time to slow down or even better for time to go backwards. But then again, if time did go backwards, would I have the power, or even the gut change anything? Anyway none of that matters right now. The only thing I need to do is talk to Jughead's doctor, explain things and hope. But the thing with hope is that it doesn't matter how much you want or don't want something to happen; whatever happens will happen, and you will inevitably blame yourself for not hoping enough if it doesn't happen.
Eventually, I'm outside the office door of the man I ran so far to see. The thing is, I was thinking what to say all the way here, how to explain things properly, but now it seems I was out of words. If Jughead was here, he'd know exactly what to say; but he's not here, and he can't be here, so I guess I'll just wing it. I knock on the door three times. The sound of my fist hitting the door ringing out sharply each time, lingering after my fist left the door. From inside I hear a shuffling of papers, and a call of, "come in!". I guess this is it. It's now or never, and it has to be now because I can't let Jughead go anymore. I can't do it to him again. I walk inside and sit down opposite Dr. Miles. I take in his appearance; he is a short, old man wearing proper work attire, with short, perfectly trimmed silver hair and a few wrinkles. Finally, he asks, "Miss Cooper. I wasn't expecting you, what brings you here today? I was just about to call you actually, it's nearly 4." I reply with, "I don't want you to kill him. I mean, it's not really killing, but it's still taking the little life he has. I don't know when he will come around, and he will, he's a fighter, but you need to keep him alive until then. And before you tell me that he needs to be payed for, that you'd love to keep him alive but you simply can't due to funds, I am happy to pay for his stay here for as long as he's alive." I finish, and the doctor looks slightly taken aback, but overall like he's thinking. "And you are aware of the cost for these things?". I nod. "Okay let me make some calls, get the paper work done, and everything will be sorted. It is very honorable, what you're doing Miss Cooper." No, I think, It's the right thing to do, and it's my job to keep him alive as I was the one who nearly killed him. "Thank you, doctor."
I get the paper work done. I put my bank details onto the piece of paper. It explains things and how, in short, I give them money, they give Jughead life. And futures for him and Juliet, and me as well. I can't wait to tell him that he's going to stay alive. Just as I'm about to leave, Dr. Miles gets a call and signals for me to stay. I hope everything's okay. When hes done, he says wit an unreadable expression, "Miss Cooper, I have some news for you..."
