So I WAS going to do this in three different chapters, and just put each one up one after the other, but then I thought "well that is kind of mean, and the chapters would be WAY too short." So I didn't, just to be nice.
Any way, enjoy! And please vote if you like it!!
Chapter 8: unexpected
Katherine’s POV
“Don’t worry mother, I would give my life for her.” Mikal stated, voice strong, eyes determined. My heart dropped hearing that.
“And that son, is what I fear most.” I replied, barely above a whisper as he headed towards the door. He paused briefly, but didn’t turn around. My heart ached at the thought that he would give up everything, sacrifice everything, for her. But then again, that was the nature of the prohpecy, the nature of their relationship.
The prophecy was already in motion. The two had found each other. Loved each other. And now, he was willing to die to protect her. The new era was beginning, all they had to do, was survive long enough.
I didn’t know how long I had sat there, staring at the door. Waiting... Waiting for what…? I couldn’t say. Maybe I was waiting for Mikal to come running back in, long hair in his face, eyes alight, face flushed, breath coming in rapid pants, and him explaining excitedly to me about how fast he could run now. How he could now outrun the birds in the skies. He was so small back then. So loving and curious. And it was his curiosity that always got him into trouble. Broken plates, mud tracks on clean floors, torn clothes. I smiled, if only I could go back, hold him just a little longer, tell him just one more bedtime story, and be there for him when he needed me most. I sighed, raking a hand through my curls.
His animosity towards me was my fault, and I could never forgive myself for being selfish when it came to him. It was my turn now to protect him. I wasn’t there for him then, but I would be there for him now.
I gazed out the window, taking in the beautiful scenery. I was transpoted back, 500 years ago. Times were tough, but Charles always made things better. I loved him, and I knew he loved me. But he was easily manipulated, detered. He wanted his freedom, lashed out at us, he even hit me once. It was his last straw. I knew that was the day, he was either going to leave, or die trying. The look in his eyes said it all. He felt caged, lost, broken, and used. No matter what I said or did could sway him.
I lost the love of my life that day, and I would never let that happen to Mikal.
A loud crash from below tore me from my thoughts. Glass breaking and screams could be heard echoing throughout the house. I raced out of the study upon hearing my husbands low growl. Reaching the steps, I lost all hope. My heart felt heavy in my chest as I watched the scene unfurl. Swords slashed out, punches flew. Men and women everywhere were fighting, clashing, and dying. Blood and glass lay everywhere.
They’ve come for her.
Mikal’s POV
Telling Skylar the truth was the hardest thing I had ever decided to do. But she was so compassionate, so understanding, and unbelievably intelligent. A part of me always knew that she had an inkling of what I was, but it still didn’t alter the amount of admiration and surprise I felt upon hearing her say it outloud. Her voice strong, confident, and comforting.
Staring into her big beautiful eyes, I had decided that forever would never be long enough. I loved her with every fiber in my being, and it terrified me. Before I could think things through, I leaned down and kissed her, long and passionate, loving the way she moved against me. Her light moans awakened something deep within. She was the one I was destined for, and I would protect her with my life, I realised with a start.
