Summer to my freshman year in high school was depressing. My parents must have noticed, so they signed me up for a summer camp. It was a nature camp. And it sucked. The counselors didn't care where you went. Unlucky for me, Jacob was in LA (Or the Underworld, either one.) and I wasn't in the mood in making friends, which was very unlike me. I was usually very perky and social.
At my first lunch there, I wandered into the woods. It was a lot cooler there, at the fact that the trees were blocking the sunlight. I walked deeper into the trees and the colder it got. It was strange. I was used the woods because my backyard was the woods. I crept closer and closer to the heart of the woods and gasped.
It was snowing, and it looked like a small circle of the area, maybe a two miles for the diameter and the woods stretched for miles and miles. I was wearing short and a crop top, not something for the winter. But when I stuck out my hand to touch a snowflake, instantly a mitten was over it. I stuck out my foot; an U.G.G boot appeared. I took a deep breath and stepped into the circle. I was in a winter jacket, not coat, long jeans, the boots, and mittens. I looked around. I didn't recognize the area, but I was still in NYC. I walked out of the trees and spotted a school. "It's just a dream. Just a dream," I muttered to myself. But it was very real.
I pinched myself. Nothing, just pain. I walked towards the strange school. It looked like a private academy. I turned around, hoping to see where I had come from. The place where it was summer. But my entrance had disappeared. I stumbled backwards, afraid. Luckily, someone caught me. Unfortunately, it was a distorted-looking man who had different eye colors and gray hair. His voice was hoarse and almost sounded like a growl. "Miss Smith, why are you outside? Go back inside for the dance."
I had no idea what he was talking about. Who was this guy? How did he know me? What dance? Where was I? What happened to my entrance? Why was it snowing? Why did this guy's breath smell like shit? But I just gulped, mumbled a 'yes, sire', and walked to the school with this weirdo.
Before I could enter this 'dance', I had to sit on a chair at the lobby for some reason. The lobby looked more like a military museum than a lobby for a school. The man left me alone in the huge building. As I waited, a group of teenagers came in with the snow. They all seemed about my age or maybe a year younger. A short boy with dark hair and greenish-blueish eyes looked super scared. Meanwhile, a girl with short black hair and crystal blue eyes looked confident. The other girl had curly blond hair and was taller than the boy. They seemed like just a group of normal kids. Soon, Mr. Weirdo walked in with this stiff woman.
The kids looked like they hadn't planned meeting a teacher or a faculty or whatever. "Well?" she asked.
The boy mumbled something I couldn't catch and Mr. Weirdo interrupted saying that visitors were not allowed. The girl with black hair straightened her back, smiled, and snapped her fingers. (Oh no! Was she using the Mist?) "But, sir, we're not visitors. I'm Thalia and these two here are Percy and Annabeth. We go here, remember? We're in eighth grade." Yup. A year younger than me.
The man seemed confused and turned to the woman. "Ms. Got Chalk, you know these kids?"
"Yes. Er, I think so."
As I was trying to think how this seemed so familiar, a gruffy looking kid ran/hobbled. I don't know what this kid was doing. Anyway, he had a huge smile on his face and shouted. "YOU GUYS MADE IT!"
