"Remind me to never let Jacob plan another route." Jack said as Luke turned onto Opal.
"Wasn't his fault. These maps are confusing as is. Makes we wish the internet was still around." Luke checked his side mirror's. "Hailey must be pretty smart if they didn't need a map to tell them where to go."
"I think she told me a story about this once. Her parent's also decided to use a map. We basically took the same route."
"Thats golden. Maybe we will make it by mid day." Luke squinted at a figure up ahead. "What is that?"
"I think its a person. I cant tell if he is infected." Jack squinted.
"Well I don't think they wear backpacks."
Jack grabbed a pair of binoculars. "Its a kid, pull over."
"Whatever you say boss." Luke got on the radio. "Were pulling over to help a civ. Break speed."
"Alright fine. Make it quick. We have a schedule to keep." Tim said sighing.
The trucks came to a stop beside the kid. "Why are you walking the highway?"
"Just trying to find people and keep fed. These woods got plenty of berries." He said scratching her short dirty blond hair. "Dont suppose I can tag along? These streets are scorchin this time of year."
"First rule. Name, age, skill, and starting point. Thats what you need to be apart of my crew. I don't take stragglers on expeditions." Jack said resting his arm on the window.
"What is this? A resume for working at Mc Donalds?" He sounded a little irritated.
"Comply or I drive." Luke rummed the engine.
"Fine. Im Derek Garrison from New Jersey. Age nineteen. If ya wonder why I traveled all the way here is because I like traveling. Lastly my skill is bombs so can I get on now?"
"Your spiteful. Why not, let me put you in the back." Jack said hopping out.
"Im not spiteful. Just irritated with this damn sunburn. Ran out of shade not to long ago." Derek said walking with him.
Jack undid the lock to keep everyone from flying out. "Hop in. And Jimmy. Make sure our guest dont do anything stupid."
"What do you mean by that?" He turned around.
"I dont trust outsiders very well in these conditions." And Jack closed the door shut.

"Dont suppose ya'll know what thats about?" Derek asked everyone.
"We take people in but you have to prove your worth. Its how we all got to come along. Strength in brains and numbers." Hailey said cracking her knuckles.
Derek swallowed a knot in his throat. "My major is bomb's if that helps."
"You look like a country singer to me." Lincoln said slumped in the corner with Lauren around his arm. "We could use the entertainment before your bastard bait."
"Ow come on Link. Dont scare the newbie more than he already is." Lauren said staring at the arrival.
"What does he mean before bastard bait?" Derek looked worried.
"Nothing. Hes just being a dick again." Jimmy said laughing. "Anyway, lets get better acquainted newbie."
