「Chapter nine.」

The vial rolled around in her palm, beads of sweat coming from her forehead. Honey eyes scanning over the pages of what just had to be an untrue story. But unfortunately it wasn't. So this was the secret he hid, why he never allowed anyone to become close enough.

She didn't need this worry on her mind. Right now gigantic flesh eating monsters roamed inside one of their walls. Bent intent on wiping away the very existence of mankind.

Sighing she put the book and vial back in their proper places. She'd ask some other time, just not now, most definitely not now. Maybe never, it just depended on whether they died or not. Leaving Yoru asleep on Ikuto's cotton spring bed she tiptoed out the door and into her own comfy bedroom. Despite Utau's constant snoring she was still able to get to sleep.

'Suddenly I was amidst a large expanse of land. And huge empty field with brittle dry grasses as far as the eye could see. There was no sign of anyone else in sight.

I shivered for some reason as I felt the goosebumps on my body begin to rise, Something about this place felt unnatural, like I wasn't meant to come here or find this place. It was as if I were doing something forbidden by coming here.

But I was here now for whatever reasons. It's not like I had come on purpose anyway, just thinking that something or someone had transported me here on purpose gives me chills. Get a grip.

Suddenly I caught something in my peripheral vision, okay so it was more unnatural than I thought. Sitting there as if it had been there for years when I could've sworn it wasn't there before, was a worn out building.

It's appearance wasn't creepy it just looked like one of those older grocery stores like the u.g.o (united grocery outlet) on the street corner near the library. One of those grocery units that went out of business and was used for something else. Like discount foods.

I didn't really want to go inside but the air felt hostile, like the whole area was urging me to go inside the place I'd rather not enter. Then the sky began to darken.... So I hightailed it into the old outlet building.

The metal door made an all too loud creaking sound as I opened it. Just the sound was making me wince as a surge of panic went up my spine. Haha scary stuff. I was never able to handle it no matter how brave I wanted to be.

The sky through the dusted covered windows was now bright as it had been before. Creepy.

Dim light illuminated the shapes if various machines and tools. There were several tables with beakers and test tubes, a box of operation gloves resting on one of them. An endless supply of goggles spilled out from a box. Stacks of paper everywhere around the cluttered machines.

An old laboratory?

My eyes had adjusted to the dim darkness as I peered over the railing. This area looked confidential, like there had been some secret testing. Sobs came from nowhere. A pang of fear crackled up my spine as I ducked down.

Still the cries and hiccups never stopped, all the lights flashed up at once. Beeping of the machines sounded. Scaring me shitless, if I hadn't been telling myself this must just be a nightmare I would've peed myself by now.

Deep breath, you can do it. Just look. 3...2...1... I willed myself to peek over the railing. Funny. It was rusted before, but now it was shiny like brand new metal. What I saw though made my heart stop, after a few seconds I reminded myself to breathe.

There were lots of people down there, scientists, assistants and a little boy. He had blue hair.... Blue hair.... Was this child Ikuto? All of them bustled around two assistants dragging the struggling kid. What're they doing?

The boy didn't say anything, he was just letting out a few cries and struggling against their grip. It seems he was unable to speak? They strapped him down to some table and winched the frightened kid up.

One of the scientists injected some sort of serum into the kid, he stopped moving. But his face signaled he was still wide awake, that was cruel. Paralyses. Another twisted the cap off of a little bottle and poured some greenish stuff into a vaccine needle. He injected it into the little boy who started screaming in pain.

I couldn't watch anymore. The noises got louder and higher, cries more desperate. I crouched down on the floor trying to block out the sound but it was no use. Every cry went straight to my heart. Tears slipped from my eyes before making wet spots sliding onto the tile flooring.

Why wasn't anyone helping him? The cries were now muffled, somebody must've gagged the little boy. The whimpers and whirring of machines was more than I could take. My mind snapped, scanning the room I spotted a box of scrap metal. Grabbing handfuls I chucked them at the scientists not caring whether they saw me or not.

"YOU BASTARDS! LET HIM GO!" Throw. "INHUMAN MONSTERS!" Chuck. "HOW COULD YOU BE SO CRUEL?!" Toss. "HE'S JUST A KID. NOT YOUR TEST SUBJECT!!!" I was raging now and I could honestly care less.

They took one look at me and instantly everyone vanished. Even the little boy. Just poof, dissolved into thin air. I was beyond scared now, I just want to get home. To get out!

I ran down the stairs as fast as my unathletic legs would allow, grabbing the rusted handle I pulled with all my might. But it didn't open like it had before. The handle suddenly disappeared and I felt my body jerk backwards before flying into the wall. A crackling feeling overtook me.

The whole room went black.

"Mu....A....mu...a.mu..AMU!" The floundering pinkette suddenly shot up wide awake and panting, tangled in the cream colored sheets. She jumped when a hand touched her shoulder.

It was Utau. Her amethyst eyes were clouded with concern as she helped Amu sit upright. "Are you okay? You were crying out in your sleep."

Amu sat there for a moment taking in everything. That was right, she was sharing a room with Utau, not in some creepy old laboratory. She shivered and nodded. "Yeah just a nightmare."

"Wanna talk about it?" She shook her head no. "No thanks." Utau nodded in understanding and gave her a small pat to the head like you might a crying child.

"Hey...Utau.."

"Yes?"

"M-may, may I share a bed with you?"

Utau smiled and patted the space next to her, signaling for Amu to come join her. Eagerly Amu scrambled in beside her. She lay next to Utau who started humming softly and stroking her hair, something her brother used to do for her when she was little and woke up crying for their parents.

Slowly Amu's lids drew shut after awhile Utau's did as well. She snuggled the pinkette as both friends fell into a dreamless sleep.

Nigtmares are existant.

It's short yes. But I feel seriously sick and shaking fingers along with a clotted mind prevent me from typing anything else. I'm trying to speed up the ending though.
