Elliot Sanders Above ⬆

Leaving their backyard through the back gate, the trio stood at the outskirts of the forest that separated the backyard gates of the houses. Through the trees in the distance, you could see zombies walking around. They were so far, you could barely hear the moaning.

“There’s so many.” Gabbie whispered as she held on to Elliot’s hands sensing his nervousness.

“And they're far, so we'll be fine. Just stay quiet, they're attracted to sound.” Nia told the two.

With her hand on her Beretta, and Elliot and Gabbie beside her, they quietly walked past all the vacant house backyard gates until they made it three houses down to their destination.

Nia opened the gate, letting the two in. Right when you walk in, the first thing you could see is the huge playground set with a slide, swing, and monkey bars.

Gabrielle was so excited she silently screamed as she ran over. While she was excited her older sister was on alert mode. The patio door was open which meant possibly, something could still be in the house.

“Wee.” Gabrielle cheered swinging back and forth on the swing set.

“Shhh.” Nia held her finger up to her lips. “You too stay out here I'm going to make sure it's clear inside.”

“Wait, are you sure?” Elliot asked.

Nia nodded, already taking out her pistol. “Yeah, better to search then end up with a surprise. Watch Gabbie.”

As she switched off the safety, Nia climbed the patio steps approaching the open slide door. She leaned her head inside the slightly dark house. “Hello?” She said out loud. “Any zombies want to play?” She joked to herself.

Not getting even a moan in reply, she stepped inside, entering the dining room. The kitchen blinds were wide open just like every other window in the house, giving Nia some light.

Vigilantly she searched the house. She checked every room, every closet, even behind furniture but she found nothing. After looking upstairs, she came down putting her gun back into its holster.

As she was turning into the living room, the sound of a growl caused her to stop into her tracks.

Just like that, she remembered Lily and her family had a dog.

Mr. Pebbles.” She mumbled under her breath, closing her eyes. Gulping, she slowly turned around coming face to face with the horrifying looking animal. “Oh Mr. Pebbles.” She said in disgust.

The once golden furred retriever was now so skinny you would see his bones, literally. His skin was completely torn off in certain places, and the places that had skin were just an ugly, moldy green color. There was a ferocious look in his white eyes, as well as drool was dripping out of his mouth.

“Looks like the family made it out but Mr. Pebbles didn’t.” She let out a sad sigh. As he continued to growl at her, she cautiously lifted her hand to her gun. “We can make this easy, Pebbles. Just one shot and you’re out of your misery.”

She slowly pulled out her gun, and just before she could point it Mr. Pebbles took off toward her. Before she knew it, she was tackled to the ground, her gun falling out her hand and across the floor. Mr. Pebbles jaws were snapping away, as he tried to devour poor Nia’s face.

With the smell of his rotting body and his saliva falling unto her face it was hard for Nia to push him away with her arm against his neck. With all the strength she had, she kicked Mr. Pebbles off of her, causing him to roll across the floor.
