J

To the man whom I once loved

My jaw dropped with emptiness, my eyes widened with horror. The truth slowly crept all over my body, paralyzing it. I felt as if I got electrocuted. Was what he said true? I knew it wasn't. He was simply making up story to conceal the truth. Yes, he was.

"Alex, I- I don't think this is quite the right time for you to speak of the truth."

"No, J. Listen! Remember our last trip to Southern Utah?"

I slowly recalled our past, the sweet and happiness-filled past. During our trip to Southern Utah, Alex fidgeted a lot. He was always day dreaming and inattentive. We had received an inexcplicable amount of help from the bellhop. Could it be-?

"Well, of course I do."

"Didn't you notice there was an affair between Jack and I?

I gasped deeply. He was telling the truth after all. But why? Had I not put in huge ammount of effort into mantaining our relationship? Should I haven't, what gave him the rights to betray me, to betray our trust, to betray our affection for each other?

"You're lying."

"I wasn't. J, honestly, it was suffocating to keep up with you ever-changing mind."

"Are you implying that I was a difficult person to deal with? Well, I still am."

I stood up abruptly with rage and attracted attention from the crowd in the cafe. I wanted to get away so badly. The atrocious truth was constrcting my poor, worn-out soul. All these years--living alone, detached from the society, isolated from the world--was because of him falling in love with another guy?

"J, it was my fault. I shouldn't have left you."

His words carrassed me with a smooth and gentle touch yet they were prickling my wounds. Rage and sorrow arose in my heart. He could have left me because a million reasons, but why, why did he have to leave me because of a man? I felt betrayed and at that moment, I assured myself not to accept the truth, all of this would be over quickly;whatever happened was fictitious.

'He left me because he lost my trust. Yes, that's the reason.' I thought.

I promised myself to live in denial.
