What if
We were wrong
All these years
Wasted
Thought we were gods
Above all else
Everything primitive
Except for us
Called the world savage
But didn't see
We were the ones
Bringing the destruction
Said creation led to us
We must be almighty

Conquerors
Put our priorities
At the top of the list
Mankind
The only important species
Called ourselves saints
Said we saved the world
But it didn't need saving
Before us
Gave food to the hungry
By disrupting the ecosystem
Said humans were precious
And the world was not
Called ourselves compassionate
When we were only selfish
Much too focused
On ourselves
Decided
That we knew best
How life should be
For everything
But what if
Our kind of life
Is truly
What killed this planet
We disrupted the natural
Said we knew better
But that
Was only our pride
This Earth
Lays in shambles now
Because mankind
Could not leave it be
We make up religions
To try to cope
Fool ourselves into thinking
We were right
Created pretend deities
In order to tell us
Exactly
What we wanted to hear
But this isn't truth
It isn't real
We must accept
We were wrong
Our efforts
To save this world
Fix our destruction
Will never be adequate
We keep fighting this planet
Saying we need to reform
Make it listen to us
Control it
But
In a war
Only death will come
To either side
If Earth is something to overpower
Then maybe we will kill it
Or in the end
Mankind will kill itself
Until we accept
This world as it is
We will continue killing it
Along with ourselves
The only hope left
Lies in us
We must return
To natural order
