Abel

I drive Aurora back to her house in complete silence. I can't bring myself to speak to her because I'm still angry at her.

If she just left with me that night, she wouldn't be in this mess . . . and she'd still be pregnant with our baby.

A memory comes to mind.

Aurora walls into the house, sniffing.

"What's wrong?" I ask, concerned.

She shakes her head. "Nothing," she says, starting to walk up the stairs.

I grab her harm, forcing her to turn around and face me. "It's not nothing," I say softly. "What's wrong?" My hand moves down her arm and she hisses in pain.

Frowning, I start to push her jumper up, so that I can see what's wrong with her arm.

"No, Abel, don't!" Aurora protests, trying to peel my hands away from her arm.

I push her hand away and quickly pull up her sleeve to reveal a deep cut on it. The blood has dried up, but it's obvious that it's a fresh, new cut.

I look up at Aurora now, feeling angry. "Did he do this?" I spit.

Aurora doesn't say anything, she just breaks down in tears. She slumps to the ground, sitting on the stairs as she wraps her arms around herself.

I kneel down beside her and wrap my arms around her. Aurora cries into my shoulder, her whole body starting to shudder.

I clench my teeth. I can't believe she's still with that fucker - I don't understand why she doesn't leave him. He hurts her all the time. How the hell can she stand to be around him?

"Why don't you just leave him, Rora?" I ask softly into her hair.

Aurora sniffs and pulls away, looking at me with teary eyes. She shakes her head. "I tried to leave once," she tells me, voice quivering. "But he found me. He kept me locked up for a week, starving me and beating me. I almost died." She sniffs. "I wish I was dead."

"Don't say that," I whisper, squeezing my eyes shut.

If she was dead, then that would mean that none of this - us - would have happened. I wouldn't have fallen in love with her.

Aurora wipes away the tears and sighs. "I don't want to think about it anymore," she tells me. "Can we just go upstairs?"

"Okay," I say, getting up and offering her my hand. She takes it and I lead her upstairs to the bedroom.

I turn to look Aurora and she leans in to kiss me, cradling my cheek.

I kiss her back and pick her up. She wraps her legs around my waist and I place her down on the bed.

Before carefully climbing on top of her, I pull my shirt over my head and throw it to the side.

Aurora kisses at my chest and pulls me down, connecting our lips.

I start kissing at her neck and she tilts her head up, allowing me to kiss her all over.
