• Chapter Nine: A Blessing Or A Nightmare •

I was floating high above the Earth. I looked down at my toes as they wobbled back and forth above the only home I'd ever known. I felt a sense of fear shooting through my body, but also tranquility. I looked up and saw the big hot sun. I felt the heat brushing my face and it hurt a little, but it was bearable. I was confused, how did I get here? I tried to move but I only floated up. I felt something touch my left hand. I looked quickly and I saw her. She was smiling at me sweetly, her long flowing hair seemed to glow under the light of the sun. I followed her warm face down to the tip of her hair and I looked away. She was completely naked. "Gavin.." She turned towards me, putting her arms around my neck, "You saved me.."

I awoke rapidly in a fit of sweat and confusion, sitting up to look around. All of my blankets had been thrown onto the floor and I was laying in a puddle of sweat. It took me a moment to realize I had woken up from a dream. As I came to my senses I started to remember bits of the dream. I punched myself in the leg in anger but I blamed Logan for putting those ideas that Hiana liked me in my mind. It was obviously messing with my subconscious.

I rubbed my eyes and fell onto my back. I really didn't feel like going to school and I was very sure that I was under more stress than any teenager should realistically be able to handle. I started to panic a little, thinking about what we had planned for tonight. I led my mind back to Hiana's hug from the night before, I felt monumentally better.

Before I could even think about how I was going to seem sick to my mom so she'd late me stay home, the phone in my room started to ring. I grabbed the phone off of my nightstand, not even bothering to sit up.

Eyes closed, I answered. "Hello?"

"Hey, It's Lo. So, I'm thinking we should skip school today so we can figure out the details of our plan for tonight. Plus, its Friday, we wouldn't be getting much work done either."

Sometimes I wondered why Logan was my best friend, this was not one of those times. Our minds were completely in synch. We shared the same laziness, usually at the same time. Now all I had to do was convince my mother school wasn't a good idea today.

"I totally agree." I yawned, "I'll call you back after I convince my parents I'm dying of chicken pox and they both leave for work."

"Aye, aye, captain!" Logan hung up and although I couldn't see him I was willing to bet big money he had done an air salut while saying that.

Like clockwork, I heard my mothers fist on the outside of my door. "Gavin, it's time to get up for school."

I pushed out a small fake cough. "Awh, mom, I really don't feel well..."

My door creaked open to reveal my pajama-clad mother holding her morning coffee. She looked me over carefully. She nodded. "Honey, you do look a bit sick. You can stay home today just promise me you'll work on your essay for American History."

I shook my head 'yes' and she closed the door. I got out of bed and looked in the mirror hung just above my dresser. I ran my hand through my mass of dark, messy hair. I didn't think I looked that bad. But I guess in this situation looking gross in the morning was a good thing. I thought for a split second I might actually do some work on my essay but I quickly shoved that thought away. I rubbed the sleep crust as my mother called it out of the corners of my eyes before slipping back into bed. I realized that I'd been so consumed by Hiana and the whole situation that I had barely played any video games.

I slid down to sit in front of my bed, booting up my PlayStation. Lara jogged in place and let out a "huh!" when I opened my file. I had missed the best, and only, woman in my life. I started running into the forest and my eyes settled on the swoop of Lara's hips. I couldn't help but remember Hiana in that blue sundress. She made Lara Croft look bland.
