My shoes make a small clicking noise as I step. I decided to go up to the owlery(spelled that wrong) before everyone woke up. It's 6:12 AM, on a Saturday morning, so I knew there wouldn't be many people. I am going to owl Petunia that over Christmas break, I would be going to go over the Will of my Parents. I would only be going there, and then I would come right back, because I didn't have anywhere else to go.
When I got up there, no one was in there. I called down my own owl, Ellie, and she hooted softly as I stroked white her feathers a bit. I tied the letter around her small, thin ankle, and told her to send it to Petunia. She took off out the window, her feathers gleaming in the sunlight.
Just before I left, someone opened the door quietly, and I tuned to see who entered. I immediately started to leave when I saw him.
"Severus." I said stiffly, as I tried to walk around him through the door.
"Lily, wait-"
"Sorry, but I cant talk right now, I have to be somewhere right now."
"No, Lily, can you just listen-" He took my wrist. I tried to yank it from his grasp, but he was holding on to tightly.
"Lily, you need to listen to me. James is-"
"James? James?! Is this what this is all about?!"
"Lily, he's manipulating you. You cant trust him. He's-" Tears welled up in my eyes.
"After all this time? After you called me 'mudblood' in our 5th year, you only care about whether I go out with James or not!"
"Lily, its not like that, I just need you to listen-" He tried, but I was able to rip my hand from his grasp, and I stormed out.
Instead of going to the Great Hall, I passed it, and went straight back to my room. I let the tears spill from my eyes, as I went to get my books. I am going to the library to study before I'm supposed to meet James.
Before I leave, I check myself in the mirror. My mascara has started running and its all over my face. I wash my face and put some new makeup on.
When I get to the bottom of the stairs, James s sitting on the couch, reading a book. I try to pass quietly, not to interrupt him, but he's already seen me.
"Hey, Lils," He said, shutting his book, and grinning when he turns to look at me. "Wait, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I just ran into my old friend Severus."
"Did he hurt you?" He asked, standing up and putting his arms around me.
"No. He just tried to tell me that you are no good for me. He didn't even try to apologize."
"Lils, I'm so sorry you had to deal with him." He put his lips to my forehead, and I smiled.
"No, its not your fault. And, how could you tell that I was sad?"
"Oh, Lily, that's easy. I love you, and when you love someone as much as I love you, you can just tell. You know?" He said it simply, but what he just said wasn't even lose to simple.
"A little." I said, kissing him.
"Come on. Lets go get some breakfast."
"Okay." I took his hand, and he smiled at me, a small smile, the one that reaches to your eyes.
We were the only few people in the Great Hall, since it was 7:11. We sat down at the Gryffindor table, James across from me. I plucked a piece of toast of toast from the middle of the table, and James did the same.
"So . . . How are your classes?" He asked me, a mouthful of toast.
"Fine. History of Magic is getting more and more boring."
"Oh. I wasn't accepted into History of Magic, and I'm also not complaining." He said, grinning.
"Yeah. I cant wait for our next Defense Against the Dark Arts class. We're doing Patronuses!"
"Really? That's cool . . ." He trailed off.
"What's wrong? Do you not want to do them?"
No, it's just that I've already mastered my Patronus, and if they find that out, that maybe they'll be mad or something . . ."
"What? Are you serious? You think that they will be mad that you've mastered a spell they haven't even began to teach you? James, come on. And, what's your patronus anyway?"
"A stag."
"A male deer, right?" He nodded.
"Yeah. And Remus, Peter and Sirius know their Patronuses, too."
"Wow. Well, I must need to start now!"
"No, Lily, you should just wait. See, look, there's Padfoot." He nodded in the direction of the entrance of the Great Hall, and Sirius walked in, grinning. He winked at James, and walked over to us.
"Hey Lovebirds." Sirius said, sitting down next to James.
"Sirius, what's your Patronus?" I asked.
"A dog."
"A dog?"
"A dog. A big, black, ferocious, dog."
"Cool."
"What are you doing up this early?" James asked Sirius.
"Well, I could ask you the same thing."
"I was reading, and then Lily came down and we went to breakfast." James and Sirius then started talking about Quidditch, and I slowly got lost in my thoughts. Before I knew it, breakfast was over, and James took my hand and led me off, out the front doors, down to the Quidditch pitch.
"James, I am not going up there." I said, looking up into the air, and back down at James, who had a broom hung on his shoulder.
"Well, not by yourself, your not." He grinned.
"James-" I started, but he mounted his broom, and told me to get on with him. Now my back was pressed against his chest. He pushed off of the ground hard, and we were slowly climbing higher into the air. He led me all over the pitch, switching from fast to slow, going up and down.. swerving from side to side.
The broom zoomed towards the castle, up towards the roof, and then it stopped a few feet above the roof platform. He jumped off, and so did I. I kept a hand on his arm at all times, so I wouldn't fall.
"It's fine Lily, I've got you." James reassured me.
"I know."
"Here, lets sit down." He sat down, and I sat right next to him. He put his arm around my shoulders. You could see far out, seeing the black lake, the owlry where I was just a couple hours ago, the small hut where a nice man, named Hagrid lived.
"I love you." I said, not even thinking about it. It just slipped from my mouth. I grinned.
"I love you more, Lily." We stayed like that for a while, but I don't know how long exactly.
