I thought this was going to be a calm trip. A nice trip to myself. You know, maybe talk to some fish here and there, find out the gossip. What's happening down in the ocean.
But apparently not.
Because as my eyes blinked out the saltiest water, and my mouth coughed harshly until I felt my guts escaping from my gritted teeth, I've realised there is no such thing as a break in the God's vocabulary.
"He's awake, he's awake! Call the chief!" A distant voice said.
I groaned, feeling all my limbs aching in every way. Tossing and turning, trying not to give into the temptation of sleep, and trying to get up on my two feet has never been so difficult. Cracks and clicks were heard as I stretched my legs out lying down on a... wooden surface?
A soft hand placed itself on my shoulder. "Hey, hey. Calm down. You're going to hurt yourself."
I groaned again, hearing the feline voice reminded me of Annabeth.
Annabeth.
Shooting up, my back made a series of noises as it stretched out to it's limit as I sat up. Looking around, I discarded the worried and confused faces that surrounded me. It looked like I was in some sort of hut with the straw roof and wooden lining. I've pretended to read enough of Annabeth's architect books to know that I was in a village area. The fired torches that replaced the urban lights proved so.
But what was I doing sitting up on the floor with a bunch of ladies and a few men who wore flower crowns, (made out of actual flowers, mind you), had patterned tops, shirtless men and leaf skirts?
It looked worse than that thing I had to wear in Rome.
A finger snapped in front of my face, shocking me out of my reverie.
"-understand English?" said a young girl with abnormally curly hair, much like Hazel's but much longer.
She had a weird looking flower crown on her head. It had red and orange feathers spurting out of it, making it look like some weird hair extensions. Maybe it was, I wasn't one to judge.
But as I realised I had been ignoring her, I blushed. "Yes."
She let out a breath and leaned away. "Could you guys please give us a minute?" She asked her people, turning away from me. "I think I'd like to talk to him alone."
Everyone turned to each other and nodded, exiting out of the makeshift door made out of leaves that you had to part to get out of. Did everything here have to be forest related?
Once everyone left, she spun towards me, her poofy hair swiping to one side of her shoulders as she placed her hands on her hips. Slowly, she approached me, but not before taking off her hair extentions and placing it on the floor beside her. The skirt she wore looked like it had been soed by herself, the peachy patterns contrasting to her red and orange crop top and belt.
She would look so out of place in America; so that place is definitely crossed out.
She put out her hands, smiling brightly at me. "I am Moana of Motunui."
Hesitantly taking her hand in mine, she gave me a firm shake and took her hand back. I could only stare.
Motu-what, what?
"I'm sorry," I raised my eyebrows, "where, now?"
"Motunui." She clarified. "The island of Motunui. Where the heart of Te Fiti has been restored."
I blinked.
Was this one of the places I had to find? I couldn't remember. The map was in my backpack-
"Do you have my backpack?" I asked her.
She nodded and I closed my eyes in relief. If not, I would've probably been in much trouble from losing the ancient artifact.
"Great. Can I have it?"
Moana crossed her arms and looked at me like I was crazy. She leaned back as her eyebrows arched at me. "How stupid do you think I am? To just give it to you after you had been found in a shipwreck on my island? Yeah, no."
"Please." I begged her, noticing something in her hand at the same time I looked towards the door. The book seemed familiar, like a picture I would've seen somewhere. Maybe I saw it from a book Annabeth was reading or maybe I-
"If you want your backpack back, you're going to have to pay attention to me, you know."
I chuckled nervously, scratching the back of my head. "Yeah, sorry, I have this thing called ADHD."
She frowned. "ADHD?"
"You don't know what that is?"
"No- but that's besides the point. You looked at my book like you knew something about it. And I know you know so spill."
Taken back, I leaned onto the wall behind me still sitting up. "Look, it just looks familiar okay? I probably saw it from a picture or saw something like it. No big deal. So if I could just be on my way-"
"Yet I seem to be unable to believe that." She said, stopping me halfway from getting up. "You came here shipwrecked but ironically, your ship is still intact and so are your things. Who are you?"
I tried to hide my excitement that my things were okay and I could go home straight away and confess to Chiron that I will never be doing something like this again. I had learn't my lesson. But my mind had a mind of it's own as sarcasm seeped through every word.
"Oh, didn't you know? I'm totes a demigod." I said, throwing my head back and running my fingers through my dark locks.
"Wait- really? That's so cool!" My head snapped back up to see her eyes lit up and her arms swinging freely from side to side, no longer resting on her hips.
"You do know I'm joking, right? Demigods aren't real." I tried to convince her.
"Are you crazy? Of course they are! Where had you been when Maui and I restored the heart of te fi ti?" She practically screamed.
Uh, having real friends?
Instead, I settled on saying, "Uh... Maui?"
"He's my demigod friend. Son of the seas and the skies."
I fainted.
