I avoided Zane at all costs.
I had already gotten a warning from the queen bee herself and being her number one target wasn't exactly the right place to be. I felt bad that I ignored him but it was for my good. I would get this project over with and keep it strictly professional.
I bit my lip as his eyes caught mine. Why did have to be so darn hot? I sighed and turned back around and looked straight ahead, but I could feel his gaze on the back of my neck. The hour couldn't have passed quicker. As soon as the bell rang, I was the first one up and out of my seat, heading for freedom.
"Aleena!" I heard Zane shout behind me. I didn't allow myself to glance behind as I quickly made my way through the tough crowd. The minute I stepped outside the sun shone brightly in my face, blinding me. I put my hand on my forehead as my eyes squinted to find the school bus. I never really used the schools bus but I need an escape, and fast.
I could hear Zane getting closer as my eyes skid across the parking lot for a familiar face. I bit my lip as I saw a certain someone getting in their car. Warning bells rang in my head as I sprinted towards his car and opened the passenger door, sliding in easily. "Looks like I will needing that ride after all."
Axel looked over at me confused as I slid down the seat to the car floor so no one could see me. "Please, just drive. You can drop me off a couple blocks from here."
Axel crossed his arms over his chest, staring down at me stubbornly. "And why would I do that?"
"Because,"
He looked down at me and raised a brow."That doesn't sound like a good reason to me."
I lifted my head and peeked towards the school entrance. Zane stood there, his eyes scanning the parking lot, most likely still looking for me. Axel's eyes held mischief as he looked at me with a smug grin. "On one condition."
I rolled my eyes and sighed. "What do you want Axel?" I asked annoyed. Couldn't he just act like a gentleman and drive off. No, of course not. This was Axel we're talking about, theres nothing gentleman like in his body.
"Wow, attitude much?"
"Oh my gosh, I never noticed. I have an attitude?" I fluttered my eyes innocently biting back with sarcasm. He reclined his seat and grabbed a cap from the back seats and put it over his head covering his eyes in a sleeping position "Have fun walking."
Gosh Aleena, were you always this stubborn! Damn you need this ride. I knew what I had to do. The one thing I hated most, which was to swallow my pride and suck it up.
"Fine." I breathed out annoyed. "What's your condition?"
Axel smirked from under his cap. "I don't think you'll do it, Aleena."
I rolled my eyes. "Just tell me, dumbass." Zane was getting closer and closer by the minute. My fingers began to drum again my knee as I waited for his answer impatiently. He sighed dramatically. "Fine. It involves getting a tattoo."
"Huh?" I asked dumbfounded.
"My uncle just opened his own tattoo parlor. To make stories short, I lost a bet against him. His reward? To bring my girlfriend in to get a tattoo with me." Axel lifted the cap from his face and put it snuggly on his head. "Only problem is, I don't have a girlfriend."
"What?! Hell no! My parents will kill me if they found out I got a tattoo!" The last part was a lie. My parents wouldn't give a damn if I got a tattoo, as long as I wasn't bothering them I was good. But I wasn't about to go get my first tattoo with this dimwit. Maybe I could make him change the condition to something easier, like buying him a meal or something. I don't know.
He sat up in his seat and furrowed his eyebrows. "Why the hell not?"
"Because I'm not obligated to helping you with anything." I said lifting my head proudly. Axel pursed his lips and looked at me slightly angry. "Then why the hell am I obligated to helping you, right now?"
I looked up from the ground again and peeked through the window. Zane was making his way from the school to Axels' car. No! Thats not good! I ducked back under and looked at Axel with a mad face.
"Fine, whatever. Just step on it." I whispered. "Seatbelt first." He said with a mischievous grin. I bit my lip to keep the profanities I wanted to shout at him in. I sat up in the passengers seat and buckled my seatbelt, keeping my head down so my hair would frame my face.
He started his car and started to drive by Zane and his group slowly with a wide grin spread on his face. "Axel!" I growled. He chuckled throwing his head back and then accelerated quickly making me jolt back in my seat.
With an easy grin on his face he looked over at me as he easily slid through the traffic at high speeds. "So, how about tomorrow night?"
I looked out the window confused. "What?"
"I did my end of the deal, now its your turn." Tomorrow. What was tomorrow? Friday? Dad wouldn't be home and mom would be inviting her friends over for a drinking party. I could tell them I had plans with someone, or just maybe not tell them at all. I think that would be best. I can't believe I'm actually doing this.
I took a deep breath and nodded looking over at Axel with a small smile. The entire car ride was silent as he drove. I didn't exactly know where he was going but I felt a certain peace in that car with with that I wanted it to last a little longer.
He parked a couple of streets from my house and turned his body to look at me. Feeling uncomfortable, I edged closer to the door. One hand on the edge of my seat while the other on my backpack. I was ready to bolt if I needed to.
Axel saw my discomfort and gave me a small smile. "I just had one more question." I nodded my head slowly. I didn't know where he was going with this and why he was suddenly so interested in me. I scoffed to myself. Don't think like that Aleena. Out of nowhere a hot guy starts to like you and the next minute you're as cocky as Sheila herself.
Axel looked down as if he was uncomfortable as well. He took a deep breath and looked at me from under his lashes as he spoke up and asked his question. "What were those marks on your wrist?"
