Chapter 9-A downward spiral..

"Again Gobber!!" You shouted, as he loaded another rock into the catapult to be fired in your direction. Abscon twirled around it with great speed around the rock and corroded it down with his acid spray. Snotlout shot in front of you, Hookfang fired flames at the catapult, causing it to fire another rock, Abscon barely dodging this time. You heard Astrid scream and instinctively brought Abscon down to catch her, wincing every time she hit a tree branch. "Faster Abscon we have to catch her!!" You called as your changewing grasped Astrid in his claws. Abscon came to a slow down in a forest clearing and set Astrid down as you jumped off him. "Astrid?! Astrid are you ok?!" You cried as she started coughing. Stormfly messily landed and ran over, screeching worriedly "It's ok Stormfly! She's breathing!" You told the hysterical dragon. Hiccup and the others, excluding Snotlout, landed and rushed over.

Astrid opened her eyes and sat up slowly. "what..? What happened...?" She asked, rubbing her head as Snotlout came crashing in. "That's right!! That's how Snotlout retreats!! He doesn't!!" You stormed up to him, full of rage. "You have NO IDEA What you did do you?!" you raged at him. "Uh yeah, Me and Hookfang made the greatest trick shot EVER!" He gloated back at you, causing your rage to turn up even more. "You almost got Astrid KILLED!!" Hiccup joined in with your anger, "So what, she's fine!" "No thanks to you!!" Astrid launched herself towards him, her fists just barely clearing his face as you held her back. "I'm gonna ram his helmet up his dirty little-" "Astrid!" You cried, walking after her. "I'm saying, that until further notice, you're suspended from the academy!!" "What?!" You turned around to see how this would turn out. "You're grounded!" "You're not my dad! You can't do that!" "Yes I can!" "Fine!!" Snotlout mounted Hookfang and took off. "Y'know I don't think that's what grounded means..." You mumbled to Tuffnut.

After a few discussions at the dragon arena, you and Hiccup returned home to see your father holding an ice block to his head. "Tough day dad?" You asked him, seeing him nod. "Aye, some days it's not so easy being a leader.." he sighed "Tell me about it.." Hiccup groaned "He had a lot of trouble with Snotlout." You chuckled, patting Hiccup's shoulder sympathetically. "Why is that?" Stoic asked, leaning back more as he pressed the ice block more to his head. "He disobeyed a direct order-" "He nearly got Astrid killed first!" You butted in, "Yeah, He nearly got Astrid killed, then disobeyed a direct order, so I grounded him, and then he disobeyed that direct order! I just don't know what to do!" You leaned against the wall, tired from the day and the training. "Do I expel him from the academy?" Hiccup sighed, pressing the ice block harder to his head as Stoic had done moments before. "Is that what you really want?" Stoic asked him "Well no..but..." "He can't keep endangering the other riders' lives.." You stated, looking at the floor. "Decisions like this are never easy..I've made more than a few in my day!" "But...how can you be a leader and also someone's friend?" You could tell it was really getting to Hiccup, so you walked over and put your arm around him, giving him a supportive smile. "You can't, not always..Hiccup, someday you'll be the chief of Berk. You won't be able to make decisions for just yourself or your friends..but for the entirety of Berk itself!" A sudden outburst of cheers erupted from the village center, causing you to search for what was going on. Stoic marched in front of you. "What's going on here?" He asked, suddenly turning stiff. "Oh it's just Snotlou-ALVIN" You shrieked, grabbing Hiccup's arm in case you had to drag him out of the area.

"Alvin the treacherous, you will be remanded to our jail until a proper sentence can be handed down." Stoic boomed sternly "is this how you treat a man who saved a valuable life?" "I don't know about valuable..." You and Tuffnut muttered."I know you Alvin, you did this for yourself! Not the boy.." "What would I have to gain by coming here?!" Alvin retaliated "He has a point dad. I mean I doubt he'd come here alone without expecting to atleast have a dozen axes thrown at him.." You spoke up. "See! She gets it! I'm doing this for us both Stoic! I have a proposition!" You raised an eyebrow, interested to hear what this proposition would be. "I'm not interested! That;s it everyone! Go home!" Stoic walked towards the huge fire in the middle of the hall as Astrid and Fishlegs ran up to you and Hiccup. "Snotlout just woke up! And apparently Alvin wasn't the only big, horrible thing on that island!" Fishlegs shivered "The screaming Death! It's closing in on Berk!" He spoke, terror in his every word. "That's just great!" Hiccup moaned before motioning for you to follow him. "Come on..."

Hookfang suddenly swooped into the arena, causing Abscon to swirl over him and nearly send you flying into the wall. "Snotlout you're still grounded!" Hiccup shouted at him sternly. "c'mon Hookfang.." The Monstrous Nightmare gave a solemn look to Snotlout before following Hiccup to his pen. "You can't do this Hiccup!! You can't take away my dragon!" Snotlout shouted at your brother, but was ultimately unable to do anything but watch as Hookfang was shut in his pen. He gave you a pleading look. You responded with an apologetic look before he stormed off.

Dagur looked through a spy glass at the arena as Snotlout left, then moving it over to stare at you. "Her hair's grown longer since I last saw her~! It looks so beautiful!" He stopped gushing over you for a moment before kicking open the box that had the dragon root "This is perfect! The dragons are in their cages! There's nothing to stop us from planting this and from destroying Hiccup and his little dragon dunderheads, and taking my queen home with us!" Queue Dagur cackling like a mad man and then going back to gushing over you.

After an awkward evening of Stoic having a go at Hiccup and you eating in silence before going up to bed, you awoke with a start to the sound of the warning signal and Hiccup screaming. You jumped out of bed, pulled on your clothes as fast as you could and ran out of the house with your shield and sword tied to your back. "Come on Abscon!" You shouted as you and Hiccup ran towards the stairs, you jumped down the railing and shot out of the door before Hiccup even reached the bottom. "I knew something would happen, I knew something would happen!" You panicked as you jumped onto Abscon and flew to the dragon arena.

You and Hiccup glided over the chain top of the arena "It's dragon root!" "Are you sure?" "Positive!" As you landed, you climbed off Abscon, drawing your sword. "Do you want me to help?" You shouted at Hiccup as the others ran off to try and get the dragon root as far away from the other dragons as possible. "No, you stay out here and keep things covered on the ground!" You nodded as Hiccup flew away on Toothless. Two Berserkers shut the door to the arena just as Fishlegs was about to make it out of there. "Open that door right now!" You shouted, Hiccup landing beside you. You gave off a particularly life threatening aura now that you were sure your friends were in immanent danger.

"Open the door or-" Hiccup started "Or what?" You looked up to see Dagur, next to Berserkers armed with crossbows, all pointed at Hiccup and Toothless. "Dagur, what do you want?" Hiccup asked, Toothless stepping a little in front of you to protect you from any arrows that may accidentally fly (yeah, accidentally my ass) "What I've always wanted! (y/n)! And the Nightfury!" You gulped. This wasn't good. "Hand them over and we'll leave peacefully!" He demanded "Hiccup..." You whispered "No, I'm not losing you too.." He whispered back "So what will you choose, your dragon and sister? Or your friends? ISN'T THIS EXCITING!" He threw his head back to let out a cackle as he watched your friends struggling to survive against the insane dragons. "So what's your answer Hiccup?" Dagur asked. "Hiccup please just let me go with him we can work around this-" "THE ANSWER IS! We run you through and open the door ourselves!!" Stoic shouted with the other Berkians, as they charged on the Berserkers. "Dad!" You shouted as he smashed away the arrows that shot in your direction. "I've already lost your mother! I'm not losing you either!" He pounced on the Berserkers, leaving you to fight for yourself. You skillfully fought the Berserkers around you with your sword and shield in hand before feeling a pain in your head, knocking you over. Abscon stopped fighting a few meters away and screeched as he flew over to you, stopped by the piled of Berserkers who had launched themselves at him.

Fishlegs escaped the arena but knocked Stoic over in the process. Dagur began to rage as his plan had failed "I'm not leaving here empty handed!!" He shouted, before noticing you on the floor, just barely conscious, and Stoic. "Follow me!" He commanded as he rushed over, picking you up bridal style whilst getting two Berserker soldiers to hold their swords to Stoic's throat. "Hiccup!!" Gobber shouted, drawing him and Toothless away from the arena gate. "Dad! (y/n)!!" he cried, seeing his father in danger and you, not so much, but still in some danger from the injuries you had sustained. "Nobody move!" Dagur chuckled, his hands holding you tighter. "We'll be taking our leave now! And if I see anyone following us, dragon rider or not! You're gonna have to look for a new Chief!!" he started laughing as he carried you to the ship. Stoic looked at you worriedly. "Don't do anything to try and bring her back to Berk if you even manage to escape. Got it? She's mine now Stoic. That's whats been promised to me, and it's what I wanted even before that." Dagur stated menacingly, referring to the fact that he had been in love with you far earlier than when he had found out that you were betrothed.
