The Beige Room

Chapter 13

Everyone shielded their eyes upon entering the next room. It was a bright white color with fluorescent lights brightly shining and reflecting off the walls. In the background all they could hear was the eerie hum of the lights. The room was almost completely empty, except for a giant clear tube in the center of the room. It ran from the bottom of the floor to the top of the ceiling. There was a door to enter the tube and it seemed as if you could fit someone inside it.

Everyone was wandering aimlessly around the room, adding noise to the silence.

Suddenly the loud speaker turned on again and the ominous voice returned.

"See? That wasn't so hard was it? I hope you all remember what I said about saving your thinking power because this trap is going to be a difficult one. I hope you can all see the tube that is in the center of the room. Inside the tube is a pressure plate, once stepping on the pressure plate the door to it will close and whoever is in the tube will be sucked away and off to a distant part of this complex. It can lead to somewhere good, or it can lead to somewhere very bad. Since the pressure plate needs a significant amount of weight to be activated you need to sacrifice one of your people to enter it. The door leading out of this room will not open until the pressure plate is activated. Chose wisely."

The speaker turned off with a click.

Everyone stood dumbfounded staring at this tube.

Almost instinctively everyone slowly began turning towards Greyson.

"What are you looking at me for!" He shouted. "I am the most important person in this group and you all know that!"

"Shut up Greyson, if anything you have been the least useful to us since the beginning." Archer shouted.

"Guys let's think about this rationally", Osiris interrupted. "We need to send someone that can obviously survive on their own, and from what I see Greyson is the last person out of this group I would expect to be able to do that."

"Shut up before I mess up your other your other eye." Greyson shouted!

Osiris just stared back at him with a composed smile.

"Look we need to think about this a little longer". Said Archer. We can't just throw out whoever we want we need to send someone who can definitely survive."

"I can go," Kalum said. " I have tons of military training I know how to survive on my own without anyone there to help me.

There was a short silence as everyone was thinking about whether they should send Kalum into the tube or not. But suddenly it was interrupted.

"Yuno, stop! She's about to go in the tube! " Nala shrieked to the rest of the group.

Everyone turned towards the tube and shouted, "STOP!"

Yuno turned around and looked out at everyone.

"Yuno don't do this." Kalum shouted at her.

"I have to". She replied, "I have been nothing but useless this whole time. This is the only way I can make use out of myself, no one notices me or cares about me. It won't even make a difference if I'm gone. I am sick of being known as the girl that everyone always forgets about or the girl that no one cares about. This is the only way I can prove to myself that I am the slightest bit useful to this group." She started to step out on the plate when Nala shouted back at her.

"Yuno you can't do this, the reason we don't want to send you is because we need you too much."

"Yeah," Archer said. "There is no way we could have gotten this far without you."

Yuno paused contemplating her decision. She was about to step away from the tube when Greyson leaped out at her and pushed her back into the tube. The second she stepped on the pressure plate the glass door to the tube slammed shut.

Yuno started frantically screaming and pounding on the glass as a mild whirring sound started and she slowly was propelled upward. There was complete terror in her wide eyes as she was slowly being moved up and out of the room. Everyone was huddled by the glass tube and looked up as she was continually pushed up and up until she was no longer visible and they could only see her feet. The glass was lightly vibrating because she was pounding and kicking in complete terror. Then suddenly a loud whooshing noise came and Yuno was sucked out into the complex and she was gone.

Everyone started shouting and screaming, it was complete chaos. Kalum Archer and Nala all grabbed Greyson at once and they began dragging him out of the room. Osiris trailed behind them. There clothes were still wet and slightly frozen over with ice crystals. Archer was whimpering to himself as he realized that his injured hand started hurting again. He couldn't get the image of Yuno's screams of terror out of his mind. They had gotten out of the white room and entered into the burgundy hallway. Osiris looked back at the white room to see a door at the far side of it had swung open. He must not have noticed it because of the shock that Yuno was locked in the tube. The rest of the group continued lugging Greyson back through the deserted hallway as he continued to scream and thrash.

"Osiris open the freezer door!" Kalum commanded.

"What? No. What are you doing?" Osiris said.

"We can't let Greyson continue on with us any longer." Nala said.

Greyson let out a piercing scream. Osiris was terrified he did not know what to do. He didn't think this was right.

"Open the damn door!" Archer shouted.

Osiris cracked under the pressure and he ran over to the freezer door and thrusted it open. Archer. Kalum. And Nala threw Greyson into the freezer. He slammed down on the cold floor with a thump. There was fear in his eyes as he was desperately starting to grasp for the door in panic. But the door shut with a loud bang before he was able to get to it.

"There is no way Greyson will be able to make it out of there alone," Archer said with a chuckle. The rest of the group chuckled with him.

Osiris just sat back terrified at the thought they basically just killed someone. The group slowly walked back onto the next trap. Osiris did not trust them anymore; he knew that he had to escape. It wouldn't be too long before the rest of these traps drove them insane.
