After that one night, things began to change between the two of them. That one night when Alec had opened about Melissa's accident, that one night when he had seen Beth broken, that one night when they both had played a melody filled with tears, that one night when somehow Alec had learnt to accept Beth as a wife and finally began to trust her.

Alec had begun to be more open with Beth. He started interacting more with his wife and not just to fool the counsellor but also because he enjoyed talking to her every now and then. Not only that he had also began to acknowledge her presence more. He felt happier around her. He slept better when they both would be in the same room, maybe that is why he always asked her to accompany him at night. It started out as him being concerned about her, and turned into a habit. When Beth would be working late, which was most of the days, Alec would stay up, waiting for her. He wouldn't enjoy staying up alone at home when Beth would be working overtime.

Months began to pass. The regular unnotified visits of counsellor did take place, but even he could sense they was a certain level of closeness the two had developed. They were fooling him well or maybe they weren't. Maybe after Nora's death, her last wish was coming true. Her last wish to see the two of them together and happy. Maybe it wasn't that far, or was it?

Every time Grace saw the two, she could see her friend's wish coming true. Every time, Lucy saw her best friend, she would only feel happy for she seemed to be doing much better in life than she was before.

Six months had passed since they two had got married and it was one sleepy tuesday morning when Alec found Beth asleep while her alarm was buzzing next to her. She had come home last the night before, almost at four in the morning. She had barely slept but it was eight thirty already and she had leave for the hospital.

"Beth." He tried to wake her up. "Darling wake up. Your alarm is buzzing for more than an hour now."

"Hmm....." She gave him a sleepy response, tugging the sheets closer the herself.

"Beth, wake up." He tried again.

"Five more minutes." She turned on the other side.

"Honey, it's eight thirty already. Don't you have to be in hospital by now?"

"It's what?!" Suddenly her eyes flew open and sat up. She grabbed her phone and furiosly pressed the fingerprint sensor. When the lock opened, she aped at the time. "Oh dear god! Shit! Move Alec!" She shoved him out of the way and ran outside and upstairs to her room.

"I'll ask Mrs. Norris to make the coffee then." Alec said without hidding his amusement. Ten minutes later Beth came down dressed in her usual black trousers with a pale blue dress shirt. On the contrary, Alec was dressed in his hand stitched grey suit. Mrs. Norris had just set the breakfast. She had made eggs benedict for the couple and served it with a glass of juice and some fruits.

"Good Morning Beth. Breakfast?" She greeted in her ever cheery voice.

"No thank you Mrs. Norris. I will just have some juice, i am already late." She picked up the glass and finished it in one gulp and grabbed an apple from the fridge.

"Beth slow down, you aren't that late." Alec said.

"Actually I am." She said as she took the apple and held it in her mouth while her hands were busy trying her hair in a bun. She did all this, while walking across the room and grabbing her bag from the sofa which had been disgarded there last night. She finished taking the bite from the the fruit and shoved her phone inside the bag.

"Listen, Beth I had to-" But he heard the door being closed and knew that she had left.

"Someone's late today." Lucy taunted Beth as she entered the dressing room. She opened her locker to take ut her blue scrubs.

"Yeah, overslept." Beth answered, still distracted.

"Insomniac overslept. That is new."

"I am not an insomniac Luce. I just went home late last night."

"I know, no wonder you look like shit. You should have taken the day off. There anyways isn't much patient load today." She leaned against the lockers waiting for her friend.

"And do what?" Beth asked as she finished changing.

"Take a break. You are such a workaholic. You need some break, especially with that gorgeous husband of yours. How is he doing?"

"He is fine I guess. He was the one who woke me up today."

"You both seemed to be getting along better these days."

They exited the changing rooms and made way to the ER. They both were assigned duties there.

"Well he has been more open about his routines lately."

"That is a good sign. What about you? Habe you been opening up?" Lucy asked knowing her friend fully well that she wouldn't have done anything like that.

"Why should I with a man with whom I only have to live for six more months?"

"You know you guys-"

"Don't even think about it! I am not going to stay wih him for more than it is needed."

Lucy raised her hands in defeat. "It was a suggestion. You guys look great together. He seems nice, at least the times I have met him."

"How many times have you met him that you have reached to such conclusions?"

"Enough times to know he is a good guy Beth and you both should be doing well together."

"You speak like this, why don't you marry him after I leave. Anyways you are too, dying alone." Beth teased.

"Well he is nice but not the kind for me." Lucy picked up her pad from the counter and handed Beth hers. "He is kind that you should stay with Beth, he s your kind."

"You are being annoying now." Beth said as she grabbed the notepad.

"Uh huh.... Sure." Lucy said sarcastically before going to the bed assigned. As Beth made way to her patient, her phone chimmed. She checked and saw Alec had sent her a messege.

I hope you have reached safely. Honestly you got me worried with the speed you were at today. Next time, though, please have some breakfast and do give your husband two minutes to tell you somehing important.

I have a meeting in Portland, so I will be gone for four days. I should be back by end of the weekend. See you then, take care love.

Four days alone in that massive apartment, Beth silently thank the gods for giving her a busy week.
