My life was perfectly normal. That is, until I heard of that wretched stone, locked away in some tower, in some horrid valley in those mountains that loom down on us every day as we go about our life in the jam-packed streets of this horrid city. As a curious girl, I wanted to find out more about this stone-thing and it's supposed glow. Well, I did a little research and discovered a training school in the centre of town. I had a free afternoon that day as I do most afternoons, because mother says I am a worthless girl, too curious for my own good, always poking my nose where it doesn't belong. She says I'll never be a good wife when I marry. Well, once I asked her if she actually thought I was going to marry, because, in truth, I have no intention of doing so. I remember I got a slap across the face and sent to go help the fisherman clean his fish, which actually isn't that bad of a job, once you get over the smell, but it's far more interesting than the boring work I do at home. Besides, I've got my eye on his son, who, if he wasn't such a jerk, would actually make me reconsider not marrying, which is saying something. As I was saying, I had a free afternoon, so I went down to the training school to see what went on. As I walked in the main gate, a man came hurrying out of the building towards me,

"Now what would a young lady like yourself be doing coming strolling in through these gates, looking like she's on a mission?" he asked,

"Hello Tye. I was coming to see if they would let girls join the Keepers," I said,

"It's not impossible, but we'd have to do a little talking," he said, I looked at him, eyebrows raised,

"I never realised you worked here Tye! I thought you worked with your father down in the fish markets!" I exclaimed, shocked.

"I don't work here, I enrolled as a student. I want to be a Keeper," said Tye,

"Okay then, you can help me get in," I said,

"Alright Adelaide, I'll help you -" he paused, "On one condition,"

"Okay, spill," I said,

"That you re-pay me sometime in the future," said Tye,

"Alright, can do-" I said, he cut me short,

"That's the spirit, girl!" he said,

"I wasn't finished yet, Tye! I have requirements too," I said,

"Oh," was all he said,

"I'll do it on one condition," I said,

"That being?" he asked impatiently,

"That, if we have to spend any length of time with me, you will try not to be such a dick-head, otherwise we won't get on well," I said,

"Okay Adelaide, whatever you say," he said, making no effort to hide the smile creeping across his face.

"Seriously Tye!" I said,

"I get your point," he said, after a pause, he added, "I'm being a dick-head now aren't I?" he asked,

"Tye, to be frank, yes, yes you are, and that's why I like you," I said,

"Aww... I had no idea you felt that way for me Adelaide!" he said,

"Shut up Tye! That's not what I meant! And you know it!" I yelled, trying to hide a smile,

"Shame. You really are a heartless bitch, aren't you?" he said with a sigh,

"You think I didn't already know that? And also, if I'm a heartless bitch, that makes you a heartless dick," I said with a small smile,

"True, true. Now, we'd better go get you in," he said, getting back on track again.
