Newt sat at his table,

his date was on his way.

Kai was supposed to be here, if he was able.

After an hour, Newt would not stay.

"Sir, are you ready?"

Newt looked up and smiled sadly.

"Not yet, soon."

"I hope." Newt sighed. He was feeling badly.

He looked down at his phone.

Be there in ten. Can't wait. Kai's last text said.

"Yeah," Newt murmured, "I'm sure you're just rushing to get here."

Where are you? It remained unread.

That text was from 40 minutes ago.

Here Newt was, with a groan.

He was still sitting, though

Alone.

Suddenly a young man came rushing in.

He was good-looking,

Newt admitted to himself,

but Newt wasn't looking for a fling.

However, there was something he adored

about the way that he dashed

and fumbled with his words while talking to the server at the door,

so Newt kept his eyes latched.

To Newt's surprise, he pointed at Newt's table

and rushed over Newt's way.

He sat down, smiling as much as he was able.

"Sorry I'm late, babe," he said loudly. "There was traffic on the highway."

He leaned across the table and whispered, so only Newt could pick up.

"Name's Thomas, by the way."

"Sorry 'bout that, but you looked in need of backup."

"Newt. And yes, I'm gay."

And for the rest of the evening,

Newt and Thomas were so wrapped up in talking

That an hour later

They didn't even see Kai come in walking.
